3) If a student fails high school, what are their options from that point?

Probably seppuku. Hehe, not totally sure of this one. I would guess since a
Japanese students' whole
life up until then is school, the heartbreak of dishonoring one's family (or
oneself for that matter) might be enough to provoke suicide. I've heard of
similar matters in the world of business in Japan. But, hey, maybe today's
children are changing? As far as the other questions, hehe, I'm even less
sure. Time to drag out that "Culture Shock" book again...
