(Let's hope this discussion or any fanfics to come from it don't
generate a fatwa.... (BTW, I'll stand the relative tolerance of the
West and/or Christians against that of any other major culture; the
problem is with people, not their religions, witness the 100+ million
killed in this century by literally "godless" Communists.))

That depends on which Gulf nation, since the levels and types of
restrictions vary. For example, women in Saudi Arabia can't drive
but women in Iran can drive lots of stuff (they just opened a
state-funded all-female bus driver school). What if R 1/2 was set
there?...imagine Ranma's fiancees chasing each other on Harleys and
attacking each other with weapons hidden under their chadors....
Now this is an amusing concept.
Needless to say, the immodest onna Ranma would have the religious
police after her in an instant. You could have a Zenagata (Lupin the
III's antagonist) like role as the head of the local group; casting
Kuno or his father would make for interesting possibilities.
If I remember correctly, according to the Koran a man is allowed up to
four wives *if* he can take care of them, which is a big if for Ranma.
