You can thank Viz for the "dropped 'u'" versions floating around. As far
as I can tell, their spellings are simply 'the names look more natural to
an English speaker this way.' Viz has always been, ah, _liberal_ with
their translations.

Actually it's more the Hepburn Romanji system that drops the u then
anything bye Viz per say. After all Pionner did drop the ou from
Ryoko(Ryouko..). In this system all double values are dropped and using a
1996 Kana table Ryouga turned into Ryoga....

Of course I'm probably off base here...Any one with more English/Japanese
experience care to shed some light here..
