This is sort of a generic reply so I'm sending it out to the Mailing
list.
For an idea on what I'm talking about fic-wise look at the funny fic
"Who censored Vampire hunter D?"
I think it's at the old archive but I could be wrong.
The problem we have here is NOT a failure to communicste.
The problem here is inteligence...we have to much of it...In the
"Good ole days" we simly would have beaten the heads of "the people over
the mountain" who open their eggs the wrong way. Now we chose (and
rightly so) to actually talk about the varried methods of egg-opening and
of course eggs as well...not to mention the colour of the eggs (and
whether colour should be spelled "colour" or "color" :)
As long as this discussion does not degenerate into name-calling (or fail
to climb back from it) it has merit because it talks about issues which
are worth talking about. In being worth talking about they are also worth
WRITING
about... and ther lies the really cool feature...This stuff can actually
provide material for fan-fiction...
And also to ask why the wackey french translation of Ranma has Happi
stealing HANDKERCHIEFS... which strikes me as being more perverted in some
way than panties...?
What would he steal them for?
Does he get off on things people blow their noses on?
Does he have post-nasal drip in a huge and nasty way???
It scars me (yes...not scares...because it leaves lasting damage.)
We all have a variety of standards and values and to be honest I try to
repect all others
... well to the extent that they are simply individual
as opposed to a blanket "all of us"
because society is nothing but a bunch of different people...Actually I
think that if society was simply made up of a million clones of me I still
don't think we would often agree :)

control. I'm asking for good taste. Whose standards? Society's.
Ah yes, societies.
My point is that the only reasonably solid dividing line is between
content (even lime) and no content. No content fics get no confusing
markers
Does this mean that the fic by its very nature has no test and thus no
content...?
IMO, anything from lime on down is
filth and not worth my time, but that could be just because I was raised
that way. OTOH, it *might* just be because I believe in the old maxim
of GIGO: garbage in, garbage out. I'd rather not pour that kind of
garbage (IMO) into my mind. God knows (and there have been studies
done) that it alters people's thinking, and I swore off mind-altering
stuff when I decided against making a habit out of alcohol.
Now what is "ART" and what is "Garbage"?
I didn't like Tom Hanks in "Philladelphia" but then I didn't like him in
"Forest Gump" either....
To the question of artistic merit...literary or not...hell that is
something books are published on and then other books written to say the
previous books were wrong.
What Is Beauty???
Another biggie.
Although I'm happily Hetero I can still appreciate generic
attractiveness. I dislike a hell of a lot of bulging rippling muscle on
both men and women...Tone looks cool.
I'dd love to have Scott Bacula's hair....
Anime by it's style is generally
of a styalisticly androdgenous nature...
So, where do we draw a line?
History is a little messed up about that.
The Samurai tradition has many homoerotic facets and then their is the
traditional theatrical crossdressing of both Japan and the West.
Richard the Lionheart was in love with his squire, a lad named Clarence.
Alexander the Great fancied his horse.
The Song of Solomon is a nice little piece of erotica....take a look.
And for violence....and of course child abuse the bible can't be beat...
Remember that Lot gave his daughters to the "wicked" so that they would
not mess with him...
And then of course there is Exxodus....what ever happened to those
Egyptian firstborn and the babykiller God?
OR
Goode ole Tommy Mallory....After all "Good" King Aurthur did the same
thing... but then again that's a book about incest, rape and adultry as
well...
......did you ever consider ole Art might have been bisexual and
had feelings for a guy named Lance (no relation to the surfer in
Porklips Now) and although never consummated this might have done so
vicariously through "sharing" his wife.
Again, all IMO, delete at your leisure, replies to me and not the FFML,
etc.
