"The Surrogate" is an example of the kind of fiction that SHOULD be
posted on this list.
It is clearly labled, anyone reading the first line of the post should
be able to realize that the fic is NOT going to be a pleasent
experience.
If you dispise "The Surrogate"s premise, and I hope you do, then I
suggest that posting such fics is something you should encourage.
One reason this behavior continues is that the climate of fear that
controls the victims has no challenge. I don't suggest that every
fic should be grim, or that this Kasumi/Soun relation should become
canon, but until we make the problem public enough that the victim will
speak up, Until we take a clear public stand that we will not tolerate
such behavior, people in this position will continue to be dupped
by their oppressors that what's happening is expected and no one will
be sympathic to their plight. This kind of fic shows that we know what
is happening. Our reactions to it show we do not approve of it, but they
can do that without flaming the author, who did no harm herself.
They will not speak until they believe we will help them.
While they remain silent we cannot help them.
Very well said, Jim. I heartily agree with every word.
Also,
"The Surrogate" has absolutely nothing to do with Homosexual issues, if
someone wants to speak against the Kentaro fics (my assumption of his
meaning) they ought to do so SPECIFICALLY! BY FANFIC NAME!!
It's probably also Scott Jamison's "Half a Conversation," which I
think was just done for laughs, and the recent fic that had Ryoga and
Ranma declaring their love for each other (can't remember the name).
