Another possibility I considered writing in was that the attitudes came
from the *original* red haired girl who drowned in Spring of Drowned Girl
1,500 years ago. Very tragic story.
Now *this* has possibilities. The *original* red-head could be a
pacifist, love doing housework, and in all ways conform to the feminine
ideal. *This* I could accept, and would even make for a *more* tragic
story: Ranma losing his identity, the person he truly is being
submerged and a person he hates to be taking over, despite his best
efforts. At the stage this story is set in, Ranma can see who he once
used to be, can see where who he's going to eventually become, and be
fighting one last battle for control of his personality before it
inexorably slides into the demure, passive creature the original
red-head used to be. Ranma knows that eventually he's going to *want*
to be passive and demure and female, and that terrifies him more than
anything else he's ever faced.
<shudder> *That* is truly horrifying. <shudder again> *That* would
make for a *very* powerful, depressing story. This I would like to see.
