Sorry, very late C&C. I didn't have much time to read over
Christmas, and it's probably gonna take some time before I can
actually *send* this, since I don't always have disk access at the
uni.

Anyway, on Thu, 19 Dec 1996 18:35:02 -0600 (CST) Uncle Fester wrote:

Ah, yes, you promised this would be more lighthearted that #4,
right? :)

: Kasumi had
: developed more of a relationship with Akane than.

"Than her" or "than Nabiki", I'd say.

: <Yes mother. She *has* matured a lot over the last few months.>
: Kasumi grinned broadly as she looked at the family shrine.
: <I guess we didn't do too badly with her after all.>
: With a satisfied sigh, Kasumi walked to the door and switched off
: the lights.

Very, very nice.

: "Shampoo understand honoring ancestors, Shampoo not understand
: what this has to do with wedding."
: Many heard the splash and saw the placid looking Kasumi briskly
: striding away from the koi pond. Few noticed that the Chinese girl
: was suddenly gone.

<chuckle> Yay, Kasumi!

: "Your presence is welcome." <Like a bout of stomach flu.>
: "I eagerly look forward to this ceremony." <So I can take notes
: for *my* wedding to Ranchan.>
: "Your kimono is lovely." <Looks like something you used to wipe
: the counter with.>
: "How kind of you to notice." <You, however, look like something
: coughed up by a cat.>
[snip]
: <Baka!>
: <Baka!>
: [MEOW!]

:D :D That was neat. Great use of contrapunctive speech/thought.

: He knew
: the Tendos well, having been the family priest for many years.
: 'Normal' had a totally different meaning to them than the rest of the
: world. His eyes kept darting around as he prayed, looking for the
: first 'Tendo-normal' thing to happen.

He he he! Indeed, a good expression, that.

: "EXCUSE ME!!!!!"
: The dojo fell silent, except for the priest who was still
: praying; this time for his own soul. All eyes were on Jeff Lawrence.
[snip]
: "Ranma? Do you mind?" Jeff asked while indicating the open dojo
: door. Ranma looked confused at first. Akane's elbow in his ribs
: explained everything.
: "Huh? Oh, sure. No problem." he sheepishly consented before
: bounding outside, Ryouga, Shampoo, Moouse, Ukyou, and the Kunos close
: behind.

Heh, that's called 'identifying the core problem'. :)

: Nabiki wasn't beyond breaking a little tradition herself.
: Instead of looking obediently at the floor, as custom dictated, she
: looked her husband squarely in the eyes. Clearly, this was to be a
: partnership. No person lording over another.

I like the way you express these things with minimal physical
means. Very small gestures that could go unnoticed against the
background ruckus that 'Team Ranma' is causing - but all the more
meaningful. Nice.

: "Nabiki, that stock was worth... well, millions, anyway,"
: "I know."
: "And you just *gave* it away?"

: "What you gave me with that company was what you thought I always
: really wanted; a chance to be a major player in a corporation. I
: loved you for that. It was my most precious material possession."
: She looked at her former classmates, her face a study of intense
: pleasure and happiness.
: "What I gave them is a future; the chance at a home of their own,
: a secure retirement, something for their children, help when they get
: sick, maybe even the chance for some girl to find a husband of her
: own."

A wonderful gesture. Very touching.

: "So you're now broke," Jeff declared looking down at his wife.
: "Hai," she answered softly. "And that is the way it should be."

Indeed. I never figured that Nabiki could be content, just
managing her husband's already existent fortune - she always made
clear that she wanted to prove herself by making her own. Very
good.

: This
: wedding cemented her relationship with her high school classmates,
: honored her late mother, and provided her the financial springboard
: she needed to building her own fortune. As their lips met, he could
: feel the excitement surging through her body. This was her new
: horizon, her next plateau to conquer; and he loved her more than ever
: because of it.

Wonderful.

: Now, if he could just figure out how to tell her she was
: pregnant.

:D :D :D

Yes, you have fulfilled your promise, Greg. A very nice piece.
Humorous with a quiet dignity, quite unlike the slapstick of Ranma
and his 'friends'. A little shorter than the last two, but well
worth it.

Now to see Nabiki deal with pregnancy... :)
