I can see what Richard is trying to do in this episode. The problem is with
the Inspector's reaction is that her hard-nose attitude isn't believable.
Nouma
would realize that something is wrong. A police inspector does NOT threaten a
party that includes
- the daughter of the Chinese ambassador to the US, herself a diplomat
- the husband and children of "the savior of the world"
- a husband and wife who define the term "power couple"
- a internationally prominent entrepreneur and restauranteur
and, assuming Ranma is known in the sports world,
- the best living martial artist.
Also, although a nice character point is made, I don't see the plans
described
as being sufficient to cut by half the personal fortune of Nabiki, who
is probably one of the wealthiest people in Japan, i.e. a billionaire.
In addition, I would expect a welcoming party of local company reps and local
officials eager to help someone who has probably been profiled in every major
business publication.
