Giving up on getting help from the three Senshi, Setsuna addressed
the creature, while suddenly doing some silly poses with her hands. "I
warn you, creature, I am a master of the Drachekunst Martial Arts! I'm not
going to be easily beaten. In the name of all that's good, I will defeat
you!"
Luna's ears drooped. "If that isn't Usagi, she's certainly doing
a good imitation..."
"Foolish mortal!" Childras roared and struck at her. Setsuna
dodged deftly to the side, letting the blows pass harmlessly. Becoming
more and more frustrated, the Youma finally struck down at the disguised
Time Lady with one of his claws.
Seeing an opening, Setsuna vaulted over this blow, and planted her
feet firmly into the Youma's head. It turned out to be a mistake, as the
Youma was not a human, and did not lose his balance as Setsuna expected.
Instead, he took the blow and used the opportunity to slam Setsuna
something nasty. She flew back and landed in a trash heap.
*CRASH!*
*CLATTER!*
*CLANK!*
"uhh..." Setsuna managed to articulate before passing out with
twisty eyes. (@.@) The Transformation Pen fell out of her pocket and
landed with a clank in the trash heap. The power disengaged and both the
school uniform and figure morphed back into the hospital gown and
Setsuna's own.
"HEY, YOUMA!" Sailor Moon shouted, and doing silly poses. "Young
girls should be having fun and studying! To attack them is unforgivable! I
am the guardian of Love and Justice, the beautiful sailor-suited warrior,
Sailor Moon! In the name of the Moon, I shall right wrongs and punish over
evil! And that means you!"
"What she said!" Mars chimed in.
"That goes for me, too!" added Mercury.
"Heh!" Childras hissed. "Prepare to die!"

"I don't think so, chumley! FIRE SOUL!" Sailor Mars shouted and
blasted forth hot fire from her fingertips.
Childras recoiled form the hot touch screaming in pain. /*This is
too much of a risk!*/ he thought, and promptly beat the heck out of there.
/*So much for gratuitous energy draining.*/
"Hmph! We showed him!" Sailor Moon smiled.
"You didn't do a thing, ditz."
"Kono..."
"Quiet, you two! We need to see to it that...Usagi...is all right,
and then we have to find that girl," Ami interupted.
The two Sailor Senshi looked downcast as they realized their
friend was right. The three went to where they saw Usagi's twin go down,
and found the person they were looking for.
Setsuna lay on the ground disguiseless, the Transformation Pen
laying next to her, and clothed only in a hospital gown. Her eyes were
twisty with forced unconsciousness (@.@).
"Hey! This isn't the girl that looked like me! It's the girl we're
looking for!" Sailor Moon observed. Then she saw the artifact lying next
to her. "HEY! That's my disguise pen! What's she doing with it?" she raged
as she recovered it.
Ami examined the fallen girl with her visor. "She's doing a lot
better now, at least her electrolytes are up and her blood sugar is coming
back towards normal for a human."
"Well, what are we going to do with her?" Usagi asked, not
understanding what was going on, but trying to act like she did.
At that moment, a head with greenish black hair poped up and
sang..."o/~ We're Jews in Space...We go forth to protect the human race...
o/~"
"I have now officially seen it all: a Youma who likes Mel
Brooks..." Mars sighed and lifted her upon her shoulders. "Let's take her
to the temple."
Setsuna awoke slowly; her head rang like she had spent the night
slugging down cheap tequila. For all she knew, she probably did. "owww..."
she moaned. "What hit me?"
"A Youma..." answered a frank voice. Ami's, Setsuna realized. It
also sounded like she was typing away at something.
Rei stood over her again. "Alright...Who are you?"
"What do you mean, who am I?" replied Setsuna. "What are you
talking about, Rei?"
Rei grabbed her by the scruff of the pajamas she now wore. "Come
off it!" she hissed. "How come you know our names?! The fact that we're
the Sailor Senshi?!"
Setsuna glanced over to Ami. Looking back at Rei, she asked, "I
suppose it's too late to convince you that I'm human, ne?" Rei nodded
slowly. Setsuna sighed. "Okay, it's like this...I saw right through
whatever disguise you use to hide your civilian identities. It boggles
ordinary humans, but it doesn't work on us."
"Who is 'us'?" Luna asked.
Setsuna stared at the cat with a crecent moon on its forehead.
"The cat talks?" she asked.
"Well, duh!" Luna snorted.
"To answer your question..." Setsuna began. The Senshi leaned in,
expectant. "I can't." They facefaulted (making Rei drop Setsuna,
"*oof!*"). Setsuna sighed. "I wish I _could_ remember, so I could tell
you, but I can't," she explained. "I was forced to regenerate this time...
that's much harsher than a natural or self-triggered regeneration..."
"Regeration?" Ami asked.
Setsuna scratched her head. "I'm really sorry about this, but my
brain isn't working right. Acute post-regenerative shock," Setsuna
explained. "Yeah, I'll be out of it for quite a while yet. I know what I'm
suffering from and what causes it, but not what it actually is."
"How long?" Ami asked.
"Anywhere from an hour to a few days," Setsuna answered. "Part of
my long- term memory has been scrambled. It'll sort itself out eventually,
but it'll take time." Setsuna closed her eyes in thought. Then held her
head in her hand, trying to force an uncooperative brain to work. The
bewildered Time Lady sighed and mumbled, "Time...Time...Time...That seems
familiar somehow...but I can't quite remember..." She sighed with
frustration.
Ami came over to their "guest" to examine her. "Well, I'm sure
being roughed up by that Youma didn't help any. You might have selective
amnesia brought on by the trauma."
"Could be...I can't remember," Setsuna replied with a wry grin.
Ami smiled, appreciating the humor. "Actually, you're lucky you
got off as well as you did; most people would be dead from that."
"I'm made of sterner stuff than most. I've taken punches that
drove me through trees, but barely fazed me," Setsuna appeared to be
boasting, but it was actually the straight truth. Her training was in a
world where the human body was the most dangerous of machines.
The Senshi seemed to relax a little. Not much. "Does Beryl know
about us?"
Setsuna thought hard, trying to remember. "No," she said with some
trepidation, "At least I think she doesn't as of yet. I know Jadeite was
imprisoned in Eternal Crystal before he could tell her." That seemed to
make the Senshi relax a little. Not much. "It all depends on what the
date is. If someone has been captured, then she knows, if not, then she
doesn't."
"Do you know who is to be captured?" Rei asked?
Setsuna's eyes looked inward as she tried to think. "Nope! All I
know is that it will happen before you face Beryl for the final time."
Somehow this statement made less sense to the gathered Senshi than
it would normally, given everything they had faced and Rei's particular
psycic senses that allowed her limited knowledge of the future. It did
make sense to one being however, and she was afraid of what this could
mean. "You said that time was familiar?"
Setsuna looked over at Luna, "So true talking one. Although I
can't say why. I do seem to remember a moon kingdom. Or was that Crystal
Tokyo? Or was that Mega-Tokyo? I do know it has something to do with
buma's and people called the Knight Sabers."
Luna head gained a huge sweat drop as she looked at the youngster
before her. /*Is it possible? Could she be one of the Senshi, the
mysterious keeper of time? I'll need some more proof, but she seems
trustworthy. I give it to her. If she isn't the one, then she won't be
able to activate it.*/
Luna looked the seemingly dazed young woman in the eye. "Right. I
have something for you, but you are not to use it unless there is a real
emergency. If there is, you'll know the words."
Luna leapt up into the air and did a mid-air flip. In the middle
of that flip, a transformation pen appeared, one that was unlike the
others. "For now, you need this, although you will not be able to use
this until the time is right. I think you have been, and will be a
Senshi, and one who is very important."
Setsuna looked at Luna as she picked up the pen. "I have been a
warrior before, at least I think so, but I don't think I was a Sailor
Senshi. I seem to remember being a man."
Usagi, Rei, Ami, and Luna facefaulted, and thus failed to notice
that Setsuna had fainted again.
Sighing, Ami looked over her computer and did another scan of the
girl, quite sure that there was something seriously wrong with her,
especially since she remembered being a man. Reincarnation worked in
mysterious ways, but so far all of the sailor warriors had been reborn as
females, as they had been in the past. At least that's how Luna explained
it to them. The blood sugar was still a little low, but slowly getting
better. It would be a while until her memories fully returned.
However, the news that Setsuna knew what was happening in the Dark
Kingdom confimed Ami's suspicians that this girl could be of help to the
Sailor Senshi in their fight. If her memory could be unscrambled, there
would be a lot that she could inform them of.
"Perhaps she needs more time. It's very possible the reading I'm
getting were the physical abilities that were required of the people in
order to survive on the moon. Her talk of regeneration is similar to
reincarnation, and it may explain how we are able to manipulate a number
of bio-physical aspects that seem to preclude the existance of magic
versus the possibility of trained reflexs regarding the manifestation of
electromagnetic manipulation of key field areas pertaining to the so
called magic elements. In fact, it is very likely that such abilities
were a natural part of our bodies, and that our brains were trained so
that we could access those capabilities by boosting our nural output to
the appropriate levels."
Usagi and Rei looked at Ami, huge sweatdrops on their foreheads
and not understanding a single word of what was said. It was common for
Ami to amaze them with what she understood, but this went far beyond even
their fledgling level. It would be years, perhaps even centuries before
they truly understood what she was talking about.
Usagi then opened her mouth, thinking about something that had
been bothering her. "How was she able to operate my tranformation pen, or
find it for that matter!"
Setsuna's head suddenly popped up. "Elemetary trancendental
dimentionality and crystaline piezodynamics!" she stated modestly. "I just
reached into the interface of the pocket and brought the pen out. As for
activating it, I merely beamed some carefully chosen sonic vibrations into
the quartzonium crystal, which forced it to activate."
Ami nodded as if in understanding. Of course, she probably
understood the basic principles fine, but she would need the details to
truly grasp what Setsuna was saying. But she was only sixteen, while
Setsuna was over six-hundred. Give her a break! :)
Needless to say, the other Senshi were lost on this point. "Uh,
right..." Usagi murmured.
Setsuna lifted a hand to her head. Things were beginning to get
blurry again. /*Damn! The shock's coming back!*/ Within seconds, she was
out again.
Ami moved up beside her and tapped a few buttons on her computer.
"Hmmm...She's unconscious, and likely to stay that way for several hours
yet. Perhaps bydoing a molecular scan and examining her DNA we could
clear up a few of the older mysteries concerning..."
Rei looked at Usagi, who looked at Rei. "Daja vu all over again!"
the priestess observed.
Setsuna slept more or less peacefully; that is until something
happened. Childras peeked in holding an ebony crystal. /*Hmmm...So this is
the girl who helped Jadeite to escape from the Kingdom. Strange how young
she looks, I would have assumed that she would be older, especailly if she
was able to get into theKingdom without Mettalia or Berryl knowing about
her.*/
Using a more productive approach than randomly wandering around
Tokyo, he had decided to investigate the possibility of the hair samples
he had found in the chamber. After making the crystal, he had searched
the Kingdom and found a few more traces of hair. However, the crystal
definately indicated that the individual that he had been looking for was
on Earth. Getting back their quickly in a glamour, he quickly started a
search which led to this temple and this particular girl.
Childras looked toward the girl standing watch over her. Perhaps a
friend of hers, caring for her because she had been injured in some way,
perhaps by Jadeite himself. She would have to be taken out before he
could do anything.
Rei looked back toward Setsuna. The woman hadn't moved in two
hours. /*Probably hovering right on the edge of consciousness,*/ she
thought. She thought back when she and the others put a pair of her
pajamas on her. /*She and Usagi were probably separated at birth...*/
Then the door smashed open, revealing Childras in his human
Glamour.
"Hey! What are you--!" Rei started before she was smashed into the
wall by a powerful arm-swipe.
Childras smiled as he approached the resting woman. The racket had
not caused her to rouse, which was good, as it would make capture a little
easier.
Knowing the parylizing power of holy wards, and that this girl had
to have some sort of supernatural powers in order to have even entered the
Kingdom, Childras carefully retrieved one of them from the priestess'
possession with tongs. Turning Setsuna abruptly over, startling her, he
slapped the ward over her mouth. Setsuna froze; if she moved, she would
probably have been manhandled. But if she stood still, he would think that
the ward had worked and would use no other restraint.
Childras carefully moved her to a waiting wheelchair and rolled
her out. They got about halfway out before Setsuna made her break.
Childras had turned around to open a door, when Setsuna proceeded to
immediately race away on the wheelchair as fast as her hands could pump
the wheels (which was pretty damn fast).
"HEY! COME BACK HERE!" Childras yelled and rushed after her.
Setsuna didn't stop. She headed set course for a place of relative
safety, the TARDIS. /*NOW I remember where it is!*/ she fumed. /*Probably
the adrenaline.*/
Sailors Moon and Mercury tried again to break open the TARDIS
under the supervision of Luna, but it steadfastly refused to break. Moon's
tiara just bounced off the door, and it wasn't as if Mercury's Shabon
Spray was a powerful attack. Instead, she scanned the TARDIS to see what
could crack it. To all her scans, it looked like an ordinary telephone
booth, which just didn't make sense.
Needless to say, they weren't getting anywhere.
"COME BACK HERE, BITCH!" came a grating voice. Just then, a
speeding wheelchair carrying Setsuna burst through the hedges and hit an
unfortunate stone. She spilled out of the chair and stopped rolling at
Moon's feet.
"What are you doing here?" asked Moon.
"*Mmph!*" Setsuna mumbled through the ward, gesturing behind her.
Childras, in full Youma form, burst from that direction. Then
froze. "The...Sailor Senshi?" it rattled in fear.
"That's right! I am Sailor Moon!" Moon announced. "For the crimes
that you have committed, and chassing this recovering young girl, I shall
punish you!"
Childras stepped back, thinking. The Senshi seemed to show up just
in time to save this girl, so she was probably their spy. He had to
defeat them, capture the girl, and find out what Jadeite had revealed.
Especially since if he failed, Berryl would put him into a crystal.
Perhaps he should offer a bribe of some type. This Sailor Warriors seemed
to be excessively fond of the humans. "Okay, Sailor Brats...Let's cut a
deal. Beryl wants that girl back, and she doesn't care what I have to do
to get her back. In return, we'll free Raionji Rui from our influence."
"Rui's being influenced?" Sailor Moon asked.
"Yes," confirmed the Youma. "Give her to me and we'll free Rui."
Sailor Moon looked over to Sailor Mercury, who looked back. They
looked at the girl at their feet; she was spontaneously out again,
apparently. Should they make a deal with the devil? Something just didn't
feel right about that.
Their minstrations were cut short by a rose impacting the ground
between the two groups. All conscious members looked up at the thrower.
"TUXEDO MASK!" the girls cheered.
The black-clad watcher lectured to the girls. "Don't sell out
people and doom them to suffering, Sailor Moon. To give her or anyone to
Queen Beryl to suffer in the place of another. That is an act of selfish
evil."
Moon and Mercury nodded in understanding. "No deal!" Moon said.
"I see," Childras hissed. "Then I'll just have to destroy you!" He
raised his head and spewed out thick strands of mucousy fluid. Moon and
Mercury shrieked in surprise and dived to the side.
Sailor Mercury stood, focusing her power into a small bubble
before her. "Shabon...SPRAY!" she announced, and sent forth her fog,
blocking everyone's view.
Lost in the fog, the vaults in Setsuna's mind began creeking open.
/*The adrenaline! Stress! The brain's working!*/ she thought. /*Not enough
on its own, but if I can get into the TARDIS...*/
The two Senshi became aware of a buzz above them. They looked up
to see the outline of Childras flying above them. "I can see you!" the
insectoid sang, and sent forth its glue again. It wraped its way around a
stunned Sailor Moon and Mercury. They soon found themselves trapped in a
sticky ball of gum.
"Yuuuck! This will just take forever to clean out!" Moon
complained.
"We've got other things to worry about, Sailor Moon!" Mercury
reminded.
Childras laughed. "Now I shall take the girl and--*OOF!*" Childras
was interrupted by a screaming kiai and a kick to his midsection.
"TEIIIIIII!!!" called Setsuna as she had risen out of the fog to
strike the creature head on.
Childras was forced back, losing some altitude in the process.
"Grrr! Die!" he roared, and spat at the offending creature.
Unfortunately for him, Childras knew nothing about the Martial
Arts Super Jump, which allows such practitioners to change momentum in the
air without visible means. Setsuna used it to change her direction enough
to avoid the goo, and she came in for an attack.
"KASHUU TENSHIN AMAGURIKEN!!" she shouted, and Childras was
suddenly riddled with hundreds of punches, forcing him into the ground.
Setsuna landed next to the Senshi and pulled them toward the TARDIS.
"C'mon! I'll get ya out of that stuff!" she assured.
She reached into the neck of the pajamas, then frantically began
searching her person. "Wait! Where's the key? I lost the key!" she
paniced.
"Is that was it is?" Luna came up with the key in her mouth. "It
won't fit in the lock," she said when Setsuna removed it.
"Oh, that's just the guardplate," Setsuna explained. She shot a
reprochful stare at Luna and said, "You really shouldn't take things that
aren't yours." She flipped open the guardplate (which looked like a Yale
lock), and inserted the key into the arpeture revealed. It turned easily,
and the TARDIS door opened.
"We won't all fit in there!" Mercury said, taking a quick look at
the booth.
Setsuna smiled. "You're in for a surprise."
"WOW!" Moon, Mercury and Luna and gasped together as Setsuna threw
open the door to the console room. It was BIG! Much bigger than the small
clearing that the TARDIS sat in.
In the center was an eight-sided mushroom-shaped hardwood console
packed with blinking lights, switches, levers, dials, and touchscreens
indicating obscure statuses of the machine they were now in. The console
controls were a mix of Jules Verne, Star Trek, Modern Era, and other
unidentifiable types of controls. The touch- screens featured strange
symbols and menus of choices.
Above the console was an awning that contained various screens
displaying in more detail what was on the screens of the main console.
They also seemed to be general purpouse screens that could be literally
anything as opposed to dedicated screens and controls.
The middle of the awning streached down to attach to the top of a
clear cylinder that streached to meet the center platform of the console
below. Inside were two symetrical bundles of eight beveled crystaline rods
arranged at equal intervals around a circumference. Each of their bevels
slanted inward, and was held rigid by a swashplate near the dangling end.
They were currently at the retracted position in the bottom and the top of
the cylinder.
Supporting the awning were six struts reaching to the ceiling and
then buttressing over to the awning itself, anchoring it to them. Each of
the struts had glowing conduits in their centers.
Opposite the door they came in was another door leading deeper
into the TARDIS. On its right side was an array of closets and drawers. On
the left of the door was a large library of similar books with a
touchscreen by it. To the left of that was a small shrine of some sort,
and to the left of that and the right of the main door was an array of
controls and monitors of similar construction and mix as the main console.
To the left of the entryway was a blank section of wall covered by two
hardwood shutters, and to the left of that was a row of six lockers and a
small alcove.
The vaulted ceiling up to the awning was separated into six
sections separated by six buttresses extending to the struts holding up
the awning. Sailor Mercury noted that the sections of the wall looked odd
for some reason. Machinery occupied the space just above the awning.
The decor in general was very Gothic; columns, arches, and
gargoyles. Candles littered the place, although it was a number of glowing
strips and points that illuminated the place. A dominating image in the
structure was a complicated and curly yin-yang like symbol sported most
prominently above the entryway.
Altogether, an amazing structure.
"Wow!" repeated Sailor Moon. "It's bigger on the inside than it is
on the outside!"
"Of course it is," Setsuna replied casually. "It's a TARDIS."
"I see," murmured Mercury.
Setsuna shot a slightly incredulous look her way. "Do you?"
"No."
"This is yours?" Moon asked.
"Yep...Built her from the ground up; the Type TT 12000C-deluxe
TARDIS!" Setsuna announced. Then something clicked as the combination of
the familiar and telepathically linked TARDIS worked with the residual
adrenaline in her blood, stimulating her brain. She grimaced and pressed
her temple to suppress a headache comming on.
"Are you alright?" Ami asked.
But Setsuna did not answer. Her memories were in chaos. The vaults
of experiences deep within Setsuna's mind were ripped open, causing an
influx of jumbled images to invade her mind. The pain came in waves as the
TARDIS's telepathic circuits wove her memories together into a coherent
whole.
When the pain passed, Setsuna opened her eyes and shouted, "That's
it!"
"What?"
Setsuna smiled. "I remember who I am!" she shouted triumphantly.
"I am a Time...time something or another. My people control vast areas of
time, I think...Hmmm...Maybe I can't remember it all." She failed to
notice that her two companions had fallen down at that and were trying to
get back up. "I wonder who I should talk to about this?"
To say that her reactions were somewhat grating would have been an
understatement. What she did not realize, nor even remember was that she
was sent to Earth as punishment for breaking the Laws of Time that
Gallifrey had put into place. Unfortunately, the machine, which had
malfunctioned so radically when changing her form, also malfunctioned when
blocking out part of her memory. It had blocked out _too_ much of her
memory.
"I know there's something around here that will tell me," she said
as she started to tear appart various cabinets. It was then something
occured to her; she looked down. "But I think I'll need some proper
clothes..."
"Could you get us out of here first?" Ami asked.
Setsuna turned back with an embarrased grin. "Sure. I'll get the
plasma torch. And call me Setsuna by the way. It's as good a name as
any." She stepped over to one of the lockers.
"There!" Setsuna said triumphantly, severing the last bit with a
plasma torch. Now wraped in a bathrobe from one of the lockers, she stood
as Sailor Moon worked herself free of the strands. "Oh, you might as well
change back into your street clothes, Usagi and Ami."
Sailor Moon and Mercury gave embarrassed smiles and changed back
into civilian dress.
"Where you going now, Setsuna-san?" Usagi asked.
"To get something more decent than a bathrobe on," Setsuna
explained.
"I can help you choose!" Usagi jumped up and down wildly, her
pigtails flailing.
"And I'd like to know more about this 'TARDIS' of yours," Ami
added.
"And I'll keep Usagi out of your hair," Luna further amended.
Deep inside the bowels of the TARDIS, Setsuna and her three female
companions (two of whom were human) proceeded down unending corridors. The
major corridors were high and wide, and looked all the world like gothic
cathedral halls. The minor corridors, on the other hand, had a sleek and
sterile white-walled appearence with roundals depressed in some walls.
Ami scanned kept a map with her computer, except the poor thing
barked at her every few minutes, protesting that the map could not fit in
normal space. Such features included hairpin turns that contained doors or
protals on the inner walls that held rooms too large to fit in the wall of
the hairpin; corridors that wrap around in figure-eights, crossing each
other, but not connecting. Sometimes the space folded back on itself in
such a way that they would pass through a room, decend a couple of
flights, and then find themselves in the same room. Eventually, Ami just
gave up.
"Tell us, Setsuna-san, why is the TARDIS bigger on the inside than
it is on the outside?" Ami asked finally.
Setsuna smiled. She knew that eventually one of them would pop
that question. "Well, your computer was having problems mapping out the
structure, right?" she asked.
"Well, yes. What's your point?" came the reply.
"And what does it say?"
"It says, 'This map cannot exist in three-dimensional space'.
Ohhhh!" Ami gasped in realization.
"Smart girl," Setsuna complimented. "The inside and outside do not
share the same dimensions. The 'outside', as you call it, is merely a
shell surrounding and anchoring the dimensional interface between the
TARDIS and the Real World. And since the inside is in no way bounded by
the outside..."
"...both the inside and outside can be any shape and size as you
please," Ami finished.
"Correct. It also means that the mass outside is no way related to
the mass inside. You would make a great Time Lady!" Setsuna said.
Ami beamed. "Thank you!"
"D-uh...I'm confused..." Usagi murmured.
Luna sighed. "This is no surprise."
Setsuna stopped for a second and continued, "So am I. I guess
that I'm what you would call a Time Lady, although I'm not quite sure
why."
Ami giggled. "So, where are we going?"
"Kitchen!" Setsuna declared. "I'll need to get something before I
can go to the cloak room."
Arriving in the kitchen, it didn't look like a kitchen. It looked
like the interior of a five-star restraunt. Along the hardwood sides were
small alcoves. A door lay beyond the "kitchen".
"Why is everything so big?!" Usagi gaped.
Setsuna shrugged. "Grandeur complex?" she hazzarded, an amused
smile on her face. "Actually, since there can be, in principle, an
infinite number of passengers, or very large numbers of passengers at any
rate, there is a need to make things big so that you can service a large
number of passengers.
"Anyway, this is just the main kitchen. There are several smaller
kitchens scattered around, as well as a large number of these..." she
concluded and stepped over to one of the small alcoves there. It was just
above tabletop level and looked like it could fit two small televisions
side-by-side. She spoke to the alcove. "Water, medium hot."
A small teakettle rezzed into existance in the alcove.
At their amazed looks, Setsuna said, "Matter replicator. As for
the water..." Setsuna then took the teakettle and upended it over her
head. The water poured out and steam rose around her. Her form
changed slightly, although not that much. "Tada!"
Usagi looked at her, "What was that supposed to do, besides get
you wet?"
Setsuna frowned, "Well, can't you see I'm a guy now?"
Ami frowned, now a bit worried about the sanity of this person.
Best to act like this was normal until they found out exactly what was
going on."Um...I take it that the males and females of your species look
very alike?
Setsuna blinked and then looked down at herself. Her knees then
fell out from under her, "I'm still female..."
Usagi looked even more confused, "Of course you are! What did you
think was going to happen?"
Setsuna just blinked again, "I'm still female..."
Ami and Luna sighed. This was going to take a while...
Especially given the way that Setsuna had been acting.
After they had managed to calm Setsuna down considerably, they had
seated themselves around a table and were talking somewhat calmly.
Unfortunately, Setsuna's memories weren't all there so she couldn't really
provide them with a lot of information.
"So you're supposed to change sexes with the application of hot or
cold water?" Ami asked as she looked over the slightly wet girl.
Setsuna nodded numbly, "Something I picked up about six centuries
ago,"
"CENTURIES?!"
"There an echo in here?" Setsuna said briskly. "Yes, centuries.
We Time Ladies live a long time, you see, because of our regenerations.
When our old bodies wear out, we regenerate into a new one."
"So you're virtually immortal?" Usagi asked.
"I wouldn't exactly say that, but I am able to live thirteen lives
or so. I think." The green-haired girl replied as her eyebrows narrowed.
"And how many regenerations have you gone through?" Ami asked.
"Eight or so?"
"Just went through my second regeneration I think." Setsuna
answered. "Neither of them were past middle aged. And on top of that, I've
had a rough life, you see..."
"Wow..." Ami gaped. "That would mean that each body would live for
hundreds of years."
"Each of my bodies can live for just over nine-hundred years, give
or take a century or two. However, as I've said, I've had a rough life."
she said as she got up and went over to the replicator. "I'm not quite
sure how I ended up here, but I do know that something is supposed to
happen. I am sure that I am supposed to be a guardian of a sort, and
since I like good, I guess that makes me something of a white knight or
guardian."
She paused, something coming to her mind, although not quite
clearly. "Somehow that sound's familiar, but lets just say I'm a guardian
of time for now. Would the three of you like anything?"
"Chocolate sundae!" Usagi shouted estatic.
"Tuna treats," Luna said.
"Hot Earl Grey tea." Ami requested. "Expain to us about
regeneration."
"Regeneration is a proccess that all Time Ladies can go through
when their bodies get fatally damaged or terminally ill from disease or
old age," Setsuna explianed. "It's a proccess that rejuvinates our cells,
rewrites our genetic code, and repairs any damage in a matter of seconds.
"Unfortunately, it also is very stressful on the body; it eats up
all the blood sugars and consumes much of our reserves. The revision also
skews our genetic codes, and the thirteenth rewrite generally produces an
unviable code, and we die. Thus, Time Ladies in general have thirteen
lives," Setsuna explained. She turned to the replicator and said, "Tea,
Earl Grey, hot. Sundae, chocolate. Cat food, tuna treats. Coca Cola,
cold." When the terminal acknowledged her choice, she added, "In certain,
rare instances, one regeneration out of a million, the Time Lady may
actually change apparent race or even sex."
The afformentioned items appeared in the replicator terminal.
Setsuna took them out and handed the sundae to Usagi, laid the tuna treats
next to Luna (who immediately began devouring it), and the tea to Ami. She
kept the cola for himself.
"Is that sexchange thing what happened to you?"
Setsuna laughed aloud and shook her head no. "No, that's something
different. I've only regenerated twice so far. We can only regenerate
twelve times, under normal circumstances, and a transexual regeneration
has only one in a million chance of happening. But it wasn't what was
responsible for me turing male occasionally."
"I think I'm beginning to see," Ami smiled. "But if the
regeneration wasn't responsible, then what was?"
"I don't doubt it. You're about as smart as a Time Lady, you know,
and will live about as long." Setsuna smiled. "Anyway, I changed sexes
because I have a simulated Jusenkyo curse; cold water changes you into
your cursed form, hot water turns you back. My cursed form happened to be
a female version of myself with a different color of hair. So far, I've
had fire-engine red, blond, and green in my current regeneration." She
then drained the rest of her cola. "It was an unfortunate result of a
practical joke played on me by a good friend of mine called 'Spacewarp'.
Needless to say, I got him back. Are you three about done? It's time to
move on and choose my attire."
"If you're so *chomp, chomp* despirate for clothes *smack*, why
didn't you just *slurp* grab your old set *chomp, gulp* before clearing
out?" Usagi asked, finishing off the sundae.
"Remember what I said about changing tastes?" Setsuna asked, with
an embarrased look on her face. "Well, I used to like that attire, but now
I think that it's gaudy as hell. That's why I'm going to the cloak room;
to pick up a new set of threads." She stood up from his seat, tossing the
can of cola into the waste disposal bin. "Let's go."
"Okay," said the three of them, and disposed of their trash. The
four of them continued toward the cloak room.
Childras was frustrated beyond words. He had seen his target and
the Sailor Senshi go into that telephone booth, but it was resisting his
each and every attempt to break in. Unfortunately, that had been somewhat
rare as he was also having to fight Tuxedo Kamen at the same time.
For his part, Tuxedo Kamen fought and had some concerns about that
phone booth. He had seen three girls and one cat enter that phone booth,
even though it looked impossible for only two of them to do so, let alone
three. Of course dimentional trancendentality didn't occur to him. He just
hoped that the girls were safe.
Setsuna stopped just outside a large oak door, threw them open,
and stepped into the room. The two girls and cat followed.
"WOAH, MOMMA!" the females yelped.
Inside was the most extensive collection of clothes they had ever
seen. Even Luna's memory of the Moon Kingdom, as dim as it was, remembered
no wardrobe even approaching this size. In fact, she had the nasty
suspicion that some of the fashions included were Moon Kingdom. The cloak
room reached the ceiling, which happened to be several times the hieght of
a gothic cathedral.
The clothes themselves were distributed in double-sided isles and
the ceiling of one layer became the floor of another. In these isles were
the clothes and jewelry of millions of different cultures over thousands
of different periods each.
"Now this is what I call a wardrobe!" Luna breathed. Usagi didn't
respond. Her eyes were glittering as she surveyed the racks and racks of
clothes.
"I want it..." she whispered.
"Later, Usagi. Now, to choose my outfit..." Setsuna grinned,
wiping her hands together. "After all, although Rei's pajamas are nice, I
think I need to be a little better dressed when going out." That raised
smiles from the other three females.
Setsuna made a couple of attempts at her attire...
Her first choice was somewhat insane and she came out in a
circa-2320 Starfleet command uniform. "How's this?" she asked. This first
set of clothing made the three observers draw Bigsweats (tm) from their
foreheads.
Luna was the first to snap out of it. "Setsuna! We're trying to
look inconspicuous!"
Setsuna blinked. "Too much?"
"YES!" all three snapped.
"Hang on!" she said, and went back into the cloak room...
...and came out in a Greek Priestess's outfit, complete with
tunic, toga, sandles, and shoes. At their glaring stares, Setsuna asked,
"No? I'll try again!" She ducked back into the cloak room...
...and stepped out in a a rather cute looking outfit that made her
look like a princess, complete with a tiarra and a scepter. "How about
this?" she asked, "Doesn't it look so pretty?" The three other sentients
bigsweated.
"No," Usagi said sternly.
"Aw please..." Setsuna pouted.
"No," Usagi repeated.
Setsuna shook her head. "Spoilsports," she grumbled and walked
back into the cloak room...
...and Setsuna strode out proudly in an outfit of an english
Country Lord circa 1710, complete with frilled shirt and cuffs, overdone
lapels and other nonesensical garb. What was worse was the top hat and
cane, and all in the most garish purple colour they had ever seen. She
smiled. "Well?"
"NO!!!!!" the three shouted, making Setsuna jump back. She snapped
her fingers in disappointment and stepped back into the cloak room...
...and came back out yet again dressed in a rather pleasant
looking skirt suit and tame looking black heels. It was a bit too adult,
given how young she was, but they were not going to complain now,
especially since they didn't know what she'd come out with next. Usagi
became determined to teach her some colour sense and co-ordination, at
least for her own sanity.
"That'll be fine!" Usagi said nervously.
"Good! Then it had the effect I was looking for," Setsuna said and
started walking again. "Back to the console room!"
After a few minutes, the four were back inside the console room
where they began. Setsuna sat down in the easy chair next to the library
and the sofa, which the girls sat down with her.
Setsuna retrieved what tools she had stored in a concealed place
on her person (a technique she leared from a certain Joketsuzoku warrior),
and started stuffing her pockets with them. She then proceeded to shove
various odds and ends and unidentifiable and seemingly functionless
knicknacks into her purse, among them a few paper bags sitting next to her
on a table. "Maybe next time I might develop a taste for that eighteen-
foot scarf that Romana knitted me," she quipped, nodding to an long scarf
on the hatrack in the far corner.
Usagi blinked. "Are those exclaimation marks on the lappels?"
Setsuna nodded, brushing the lappels off and showing that they
were indeed exclaimation marks. "The Doctor always wore question marks on
his lappels, and as a joke I started wearing bangs on my own." Setsuna
smiled as she remembered the prank. "The practice stuck."
"'Bangs'?" Usagi asked.
"Hacker-speak for 'exclaimation mark'," Ami explained.
/*You would know,*/ thought Usagi.
"USAGI!" Luna yowled, causing Usagi to fall off the sofa again. "I
just remembered! You need to get home! Your family's probably worried sick
about you!"
Usagi groaned. "Jeez, great Luna! My mom said that if I was late
one more time, I'd be grounded for life."
Setsuna jumped up from her seat. "Well, no time like the present,
eh?" she asked and strolled over to the console and started manipulating
the controls.
"What are you doing?" Ami asked, stroling over.
"Setting coordinates for Usagi's house, of course!" Setsuna
grinned. "A few hours ago. She'll arrive way before her curfew."
"All right!" Usagi smiled.
With fevor, Setsuna threw the main power switch and activated the
dematerialization mode of the Tardis' time co-ordinate circuit and the
multidimensional stabilizer. Now, normally, this would result in the
dimentional interface of the TARDIS dematerializing (the outer shell of
the TARDIS, now shaped like a phone booth), and the TARDIS itself leaping
into the spacetime vortex and into temporal orbit. That's what would
normally would have happened. But the Time Lords had been doing some...
monkeying around...with the TARDIS systems
The two bundles of beveled rods in the clear cylinder moved
together, meshing perfectly up to their swashplates, and accompanied by a
groan. However, the motion was jerky and the sound was wheezy and
grinding.
She turned on the outside monitors, fully expecting to see
everything outside disappear and for Usagi's house to show up. However,
all that happened was the picture remained steady. Frowning , she said,
"That's strange. We should have already leapt away and been to Usagi's
house."
"What's wrong?" Ami asked.
"I'm not sure. From what I remember that should have worked.
Perhaps something else happened to me, which is why I can't remember
everything. It is possible I crash landed here, or was I put here because
I was supposed to be here?"
Luna sighed to herself. From everything the girl had said so far,
she fit the description of one of Queen Sereniy's strongest warriors. One
who had to remain at her post almost constantly. Something seemed to have
happened though, so her powers over the streams of time were disrupted for
some reason. She hoped that the Queen's trust in that mysterious warrior
whom she had never met was justified. "How about concentrating on what's
going on now instead of the past?"
Setsuna continued to mumble to herself, "OK, Luna. But suppose
what I did hear was off slightly, could I have started the ship to
disintergrate? I don't believe so, or we would have already been gone,
but suppose we're now bio-images instead of actual people. Would we even
know..."
Usagi grabbed her by the lappels. "I DON'T CARE! I DON'T WANT TO
DIE! CAN'T YOU JUST STOP THIS AND LET US OUT OF HERE?"
Setsuna blushed. "You know, I forgot I can do that." Before she
could do anything however, a panel blew underneath the TARDIS, startling
the girls and Setsuna killed the power. It made an almost comical *twang!*
as the rotor stopped dead. Crawling beneath the console, she poked into
the blown pannel, then hissed with pain as she pulled her hand back and
fanned it down. "Ouch! Hot!" Setsuna pulled out a handkerchief and using
it as a potholder, pulled out a tetrahedral-shaped "tube" out of the
console. "Ah! Here's the problem..."
"What is it?" asked Ami.
"This," she said crawling up from beneath the console and holding
up the errant circuit tube, "is why we couldn't move: the
dematerialization circuit. It dissolves the outer plasmitic shell of the
TARDIS in concert with the multidimensional stabilizer to allow the TARDIS
to enter the spacetime Vortex."
"What?!" Ami asked.
Setsuna held up the useless dematerialization circuit. "This
basically does the equivelent of pulling in the anchor of an ocean-liner.
With this inoperative, the TARDIS can't budge an inch by itself."
Ami shrugged. "Shouldn't you be able to repair it?"
Setsuna now looked very embarrassed. "Um...I hate to say
this...but...um...
Icanrecallthebasicprinciplesbuttheactualapplicationisbeyondmyknowledge..."
"What?" the three asked.
She sighed and looked at her three companions. "I said that I can
recall the basic principles, but the actual application is beyond my
knowledge for some reason. I should know how to do it, but I can't
remember how, OK? Probably part of what caused be to forget almost
everything."
Luna looked at her, and said, "Right, lets get out of here then.
Girls, Transform now."
"Right," the two girls said.
"MOON PRISM POWER, MAKE UP!"
"MERCURY POWER, MAKE UP!"
Setsuna cuteously turned around. Their familiar transformation
sequences ran their courses, leaving them with Sailors Moon and Mercury.
"We'll go out first," Mercury said. "You're no Senshi."
Sighing, Setsuna said, "You didn't do so well before, and he is
looking for me. Let me handle this a bit, and I may be able to do
something about it."
Sailor Moon looked at Sailor Mercury; Sailor Mercury looked back
at Sailor Moon. They both looked at Setsuna. "Okay. If you say so..."
"Then let's go." She threw the lever that controled the entryway
doors and started towards them, Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury close
behind.
Childras was getting rather fustraed, considering that he had been
battling Tuxedo Kamen for over an hour now, and was still not getting
anywhere. He couldn't let his quarry get away, but he wasn't going to
last too much longer against his adversary. He was just about to try to
web Kamen once more when the door opened behind him. He took a quick
glance, saw that the girl was now dressed, and that the Senshi were free,
and decided that was it for the day. "Next time Senshi!"
A doorway of black energy appeared and Childras quickly exited
through it. He was rather proud of himself however. So far, he was the
only one who had lasted so long against any of Earths defenders.
Tuxedo Kamen looked at the young ladies, who were rather statled
that the battle hadn't even had a chance to really begin. Seeing that
they were safe, he said, "Until next time Sailor Senshi!" and leapt away.
Usagi's eyes went heart shaped as she looked at the departing
hero. "Isn't he so great?"
Ami, Setsuna, and Luna bowed their heads as they noticed this. It
was probably too much to ask her to get over her infatuation with kamen,
but they had a job to do. Besides, it was slightly embarrassing.
They had also forgotten that they had left their handsome
protector to do battle alone.
"Oh, Tuxedo Mask...Who are you?" Sailor Moon sighed.
"I know who he is."
"Really!?!" Moon gasped. "How?!"
"I can see through those flimsy disguses of yours," Setsuna
grinned. "Besides, I read his bio-extract."
"Whoishewhoishewhoishe?!" Sailor Moon pleaded, jumping up and
down.
"*tsk, tsk* That would be telling. You aren't supposed to find out
yet..." Setsuna smiled mysteriously, much to Sailor Moon's disappointment.
"But I can tell you that he's always close at hand. Change back, you two.
I need to get you back home, don't I?"
Usagi pulled an eyebrow as she watched Setsuna enter the
not-booth. "Now how are you supposed to do that? I thought you said your
TARDIS is immobla...immobol...ack, can't move."
Setsuna poked her head out the TARDIS door. "I didn't say that the
TARDIS is my ONLY form of travel." She ducked back in.
Sailor Moon shrugged and both she and Sailor Mercury banished
their Senshi suits and became plain old Usagi and Ami again.
Just then, Sailor Mars came running in panting. "Whaddimiss?" she
panted.
"Everything," said Usagi.
"Oh, poop!" Sailor Mars growled and turned back into Rei.
After a few seconds, the space just left of the TARDIS shimmered
and suddenly, a 1987 Chrysler Voyager appeared out of nowhere. The three
girls jumped back. Setsuna stepped out of his TARDIS. "Ah! Glad you could
make it, Rei," she piqued.
"What's the car for?" Rei asked.
Setsuna frowned, "To take you all home, of course."
Ami grimaced, "Setsun-san, you forgot something."
Setsuna looked back, puzzled, "What are you talking about?"
Usagi was the one who brought her up to speed. "You're a little
young to be driving at the moment Setsuna-san..."
Setsuna looked at them, "OH...I forgot how young I am now. Does
anyone happen to have enough yen to make a phone call..."
All four sentient's who heard Setsuna took a moment to do an
extreme face fault...
"Usagi-chan! Do you know what time it is?!" Kenji snapped over the
phone. At her stuttering, he answered, "It's twelve-thirty, for cripe's
sake! Do you know how worried we were?! Where are you now?"
"I'm at the park Father, with Ami and Rei. There's a sailor
Senshi here who saved us, and now she's sort of stuck here. Can you come
and pick us up?"
Kenji paled. His precious daughter attacked? And one of the
Senshi in trouble? "I'm on my way now. Stay there."
***
After droping off the other girls, and having explanations given,
and also having Usagi's little brother, Shingo doing a bit of hero
worship, (Setsuna had gone back into the cloak room to get an apprpriate
sailor uniform, complete with staff.), they sat down to have some coffee.
Of course, when they learned what that phone booth was, both
parents were a little bit worried. It didn't seem right that anyone
should live like that, and with a mother, it was just plain wrong. Ikuko
had frowned when she learned that the girl in front of them had no home
except for what seemed like a phone booth. This girl, a Sailor Senshi had
saved her daughters life, and to hear of living such a hard life was not
to be tolerated. What had these young girls given up to become warriors?
"What about a normal life? Friends, family, school?"
Setsuna started to sweat a bit. "Uh...Well...I can't remember
much about it, but I know my parents are dead, and as for school, well, I
know what they're trying to teach, at least I think I do. There's not
much time for that sort of stuff anyways given what my duties are."
Kenji shook his head, "No. That just isn't right. There's go to
be more to life than that, young lady. You're going to live here with us
from now on, and if anyone asks, we'll say that you're my niece."
Setsuna felt her life rapidly spinning out of her control. By
'saving' Usagi, she had made a friend out of her parents. Unfortunately,
they also seemed to feel that they had to be responsible for her welfare.
It was doubly so when one considers that the hospitality customs of Japan
would make it a huge insult to refuse them. "Eh...Well...I'm not sure..."
Ikuko, seeing that the girl was about to refuse, settled the
matter once and for all. "We are indebted to you for saving our daughter.
As of now, you will be as our second daughter. What is your family name?"
Setsuna sighed a bit, she hadn't thought of using a family name
for some reason. It seemed to her that her people only used one name to
describe themselves, although she wasn't sure why. She also had a feeling
that such names were not the ones they were born with. "I'm afraid I
don't have one."
Kenji frowned, "How does the name Meiou sound then?"
THE NEXT MORNING...
Setsuna awoke to a shout, "AH...I'M LATE!!! WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY
WAKE ME UP SOONER!"
Grogily, the young time lady lifted her head to look at the person
doing the shouting. There was Usagi, running around the room and pulling
on her clothes as if there was no tommorow. "Late for what?"
For the first time ever, Usagi paused in the middle of her usual
morning rush. "Whe've got school this morning Setsuna-chan. And we still
have to get you registered."
After getting that answer, Setsuna nodded, still not quite
recovered from her regeneration, and lay back down to sleep. The words
however, perculated, got thrown around, and was gradually regurgitated
back to her conscious mind, which had tried to dismiss this. So a minute
later...
"AH...I'M LATE!!! WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY WAKE ME UP SOONER!"
Luna ears drooped low as she observed the morning rush and the two
girls dashing off to school through the window. She then muttered to
herself, "Two of them. I get stuck with TWO of them! Why couldn't it
have been that lazy furbag Artimis who got stuck with these two?"
