Might as well send this again as it's so tiny and someone might have
dumped it without the rest. Dump the last version if you've kept it -- there
are some minor changes in this one.

Ok, this is very much an initial set of specs and I'm more than happy
for anyone to point out impossibilities or give me a hand developing the DA
concept. Also, should anyone want to use DAs in something I don't mind so
long as you acknowledge where the idea came from, let me know so that I can
make sure you have everything correct and don't claim to have invented the
idea yourself. ^_^ Regarding that, many thanks to Rick <g.feng@worldnet.att.
net (Psyber)> without whose reference documentation for other boomers I would
probably never have bothered to write this up.

Firmware:
DA-33 and DA-33E:
Several versions of the 33 and 33E firmware existed at the time
of the initial DA activation, each with its own problems. These
are as follows:
Note: base and elite designations refer to initial parameters
only.
Bu-7541-33.01E [Marina] (V2.23).
Zhuranovsky's last upgrade includes the first fully-integrated
Diminutive-control drivers, the concurrent protected-mode
operation of as many secondary nets as memory will permit,
routines for handling the entire 256-bit address-space of the
DA-2134 for future memory upgrade, Genom OMS emulation and
lockout, fixes and enhancements to the DA OMS and several changes
and enhancements to the way the base background routines drive
the DA's consciousness which permits the designated primary net
access to every part of its firmware, including the ability to
re-code any aspect as desired. This version was a desperate last
attempt to include all that Zhuranovsky wished his creation to
possess should he be killed during their escape and was never
intended to be a final release.
BU-7541-33.02 [Liana] (V1.00A).
The first to attempt a Shasti-like integration of the 100000+
sub-persona variables that would make up the archetypes used for
covert operations, this version lacked the interrupt code
included in later versions that watch-dogged the DA's base
persona for sub-persona corruption and was therefore *extremely*
dangerous and never intended for upload into a functional DA.
BU-7541-33.03 [Camilla] (V0.01A).
The first functional release and still unstable, it was little
more than a patchwork of 33S, 33C, 55C and 27SP routines with the
drivers needed to integrate the DA cultural and linguistic
libraries and as a base for the virtual-net overlay that makes up
the DA's consciousness.
BU-7541-33.04E [Ligeia] (V2.02B).
The most stable, this was the last firmware upgrade Quincy
possessed and the first to permit more than one fully-functional
base persona in a single DA (Zhuranovsky intended that it be used
should any situation require the temporary wholesale transfer of
one DA to another). This version lacked the code to permit
multiple nets to function concurrently in a single unit (which
suited Quincy's purpose for Ligeia/Madeleine perfectly).
Note that both Liana and Ligeia were upgraded by Sylia to V2.23
at the time of the first rift, not necessarily a good idea as
additional unforeseen problems existed in Marina's firmware that
were absent in the last official release. Liana was also
upgraded to an Elite by Ligeia during her removal of Fellini's
attempt to duplicate Zhuranovsky's 33S hardware links.
DA-33D and DA-33DE:
Only one functional version of the 33D and 33DE firmware was used
for real-world operations.
Note: The DA diminutive attack buma were intended as sentient,
semi-slaved combat and covert support for the 33 and 33E and for
this reason were developed only with forced cooperation from
Zhuranovsky until he realised that they could be instrumental in
the DA fight for their own destiny.
Bu-7541-33D.01E [Lenore] (V2.02B).
See Ligeia for further details concerning V2.02B.
Note: There is no difference in the base and D firmware save in
the calibration constants defined for the physical and sensory
drivers at initialisation. A D or DE net will function perfectly
in a 33 or 33E and vice versa.
Hardware:
Body (skeleton and skin):
The DA skeleton is a pseudo-organic ceramic composite and the
flesh/skin a pseudo-organic synthetic, both being capable of
self-repair subject to available internal power or ambient
radiation and self-modification under CPU control. The speed of
change depends on the extent desired and the power available.
Had e.g. the Madeleine persona full access to Ligeia's libraries
she could have altered Ligeia's facial features in seconds given
sufficient power but could not have shed mass to match her own
size. One reason the DA-33/DA-33E are so tall is simply that
they are packed to the limit and cannot shrink without causing
internal damage. Thus practically their adaptation is limited by
those portions of their systems not composed of the
self-modifying materials. There is also the problem that,
designed to appear human as much as possible, they must be
composed of a material light enough to give them correct human
weight for height statistics, taking their reactor shielding and
internal systems into account. For this reason their strength
lies in their ability to avoid rather than endure purely inertial
attacks. Additionally, the exoskeleton is not capable of
surviving even a DA-33 at full physical exertion and an Elite is
guaranteed to splinter its skeleton beyond all hope of repair
(due to systems destruction in the splintering) far below maximum
exertion.
CPU:
There are four of these. The DA-33 uses a standard Bu-33S-A
pseudo-organic CPU as its base and the DA-33D a second-generation
miniaturised version of the same (there is no difference between
the two, save that the D chip is a fraction of the size using the
latest in leading-edge miniaturisation, something that was not
possible when the 33S was designed).
The DA-33E uses an entirely new concept in pseudo-organic
technology. The DA-2134 is an eight-pound block of material the
size of a human brain that more or less fills the entire skull of
the buma, the entire external surface of which is a nest of
nano-links into which the surrounding material grows after the
chip's insertion.
The DA-2134D is the DA-2134 equivalent for the DA-33DE and
because of its restrictions in size is a multi-modular chip
linked by nano-connections etched into the skeleton and squeezed
into every cavity the DE body can spare, reducing the chip's
optimal performance to perhaps 1/4 that of its counterpart.
Furthermore, the driver chips and external memory are matrices
etched directly into much of the skeleton making the
DA-33D/DA-33DE extremely vulnerable should the skeleton be
damaged.
Both chips herald a revolution in Genom's exploration of the EOA
(Enhanced Organic Architecture) concept that integrates the CPU
and memory into a single unit permitting access to the chip's
entire on-board 100 million MB in a fraction of the time
previously thought possible. Neither chip however has been
tested extensively and unforeseen problems might very well appear
in the prototypes the DAs possess.
Weaponry and reactor:
DA-33/DA-33E
In continual operation, the prototype versions of the
conventional weapons, whilst an excellent breakthrough, are
almost unusable without cumulative damage to the surrounding
material in energy dissipation or the demands on the boomer's
vastly over-powered reactor which is likely to explode within
seconds under continual demand due to lack of the venting usual
for heavy combat machines. In flash-pulse mode, the main weapons
can be employed to their terrible, devastating maximum for
several seconds without warnings flashing into the DA's
consciousness.
DA-33D/DA-33DE
Without Zhuranovsky's initial consultation concerning necessary
changes to his designs to accommodate the tiny size of the
DA-33D/DA-33DE, several fundamental errors were made in the
decision to take maximum advantage of the machine's miniaturised
DA prototype reactor. Filling almost all the trunk-space not
taken by weaponry itself, the reactor with its minimal venting is
a cataclysmic disaster waiting to happen. The technology
untested and designed for raw power without regard for the
consequences, it will go critical and explode within a
half-second of the continual demands of the DA-33D main weapons
and within a tenth-second of the DA-33DE main weapons being
activated. Even in pulse-mode, the reactor is functioning far
above its design tolerance and is likely to explode within
seconds of continual maximum demand.
Note: under no circumstances can the systems be shut down
internally against the will of the DA. As of V2.00 the boomer's
consciousness has the ability to override the background routines
responsible for any aspect of the body and systems should it be
necessary.
General notes:
1)	The DA-33 series heralds a truly despicable low in
Genom's search for the ultimate combination combat and covert
operations machine. The DA-class boomer is a sickening nightmare
of the most vicious and perverse blend of leading-edge military
technology and virtual neural-net emulation super-intelligence
that has yet been released from Genom's military research
division, its only saving grace being the safeguards and
instinctive morality Zhuranovsky convinced Quincy to permit in
its base firmware as an additional instinctive safeguard against
possible rebellion. This series would most certainly be banned
by any self-respecting government.
2)	Native, none of the DA-33 prototypes are a viable combat
proposition. All are absurdly over-powered for their
construction and even the base DA-33 will tear itself apart or
splinter its exoskeleton at less than 60% maximum sustained
physical exertion if it doesn't tear out its thrusters during
flight, blow its reactor apart or vaporise itself in reflective
feedback. The DA-33E is virtually guaranteed to disintegrate at
less than 20% sustained optimum combat performance and the D and
DE at less than 5% and 2% respectively. These problems cannot yet
be overcome with the technology available in the BGC universe but
it is only a matter of time before Genom find the solutions they
need. The prototypes have proven that the DA concept is at the
least potentially a devastating weapon and research to correct
known faults in the prototypes now that they have proven
themselves will be continual and of the highest priority.
