I suppose I really shouldn't contribute to the spam here by throwing in
my 1.1 cents worth (2 cents, depreciated).
Ah, hell, since when do I ever pass up an opportunity to spam?
For me, I've found that prose makes it easier to get inside the
character's heads, without having to use their actual thoughts. however,
script format makes dialogue easier, since it's that much easier to keep
track of who's talking. You also don't have to worry about the trap of
endlessly repeating 'He/She said' over and over.
For writing, I generally stick to prose, since I have the most
experience writing that.
As for what I prefer to read, the answer is a definite 'It depends'. I
generally prefer stories good enough that the format becomes
transparent. i find that Darkfics and 'introspective' fics work best as
prose, and those heavy in dialogue work best as scripts, although there
are so many exceptions on both sides that this comment is almost
meaningless.
Well, that should blurry things up for ya.
