As far as I remember, it is not unheard-of for the groom to
carry on his father-in-law's clan name if there are no sons
on the bride's side. Of course, since Ranma doesn't have brothers
either, this means his branch of the Saotome clan would die.
Not unmanly, but certainly unwise.

I mentioned that on a reply that didn't go to the ML ... That the
Saotome family would die off if that happened ... I don't see Genma
or Nodoka allowing that to happen, let alone Ranma himself...

I'll let others more knowledgeable about that explain who
takes this kind of decision. I've a feeling it would be
arranged between both families.

But I assume that they'd have set that up right when Genma and Souun
arranged the marriage in the first place, and it would have been
mentioned somewhere in the 38 volumes... :p

Besides, there are three Tendt sisters, which makes two
more opportunities to adopt a husband into the clan. I would
easily see Nabiki do that (though she's the most untraditional
of the three).

BTW didn't somebody put a 'Tendt Tatewaki' in one fic or
another?

I don't recall a Tendou Tatewaki... ^^;
