Forgive me Kun-chan, but that sounds like rather a Western attitude.  I
don't think it's considered "unmanly" for a man to adopt his wife's name
in a Japanese marriage, especially when he's assuming her family's
property in the bargain.

But he'd get it anyway. He already got it, (or it was accepted that 
he had it) because he used it to bet against Bakuchi Ou King, anyway.

You talk about tradition, but you're talking about Western tradition,
not Japanese tradition.  And the Japanese tradition is for the man to
assume the woman's name in this kind of situation, and it doesn't mean
and kind of loss of face for the man.  In fact, by assuming his wife's
name, the man may actually be gaining face.  Certainly the Tendo family
*seems* to be a richer, more powerful family than the Saotome family.

But you haven't explained how RANMA let himself take that name. And he's
Mr. Ego. Can you turly say that Ranma would accept the name Tendou? And
who's the one who pushed him into it? You haven't answered any of my
questions. :p

You can say all you want that it's normal for a Japanese person in that
position.

It's also normal for a Japanese man to be off working long hours and
drinking all night and never seeing his wife, and spending all his money
on pachinko.

Maybe if your Ranma did all that, I could fit him in with 'normal'
Japanese people ... but Ranma isn't any of that ... And you haven't 
explained why Ranma took that name.

I'm hoping Hitomi or someone can respond to this and give us some kind
of definitive answer.  I've been hearing discussions on this for such a
long time, I decided to be the first one to actually take that position
in a fanfic.  :)  I'm open for discussion on whether this would be
appropriate or not...

Well, you've still got to have an explanation of why RANMA did it ...
And why Genma let him. And who got him to do it.
