I've been asked to explain what this story is about, so let's see the clues:

I am so very tired. I had to escalate to princess this time, and still
it wasn't enough to keep everyone safe.

OK, it's a first person story, told by a sometimes princess, who uses a
crystal and hangs out with female sailors. I.e.: Usagi. This is a
Sailor Moon fic.

"She would not wish that, my princess, our messiah. The world needs you

Sailor Moon was revealed to be the messiah in Sailor Moon S, so the pair
of one living and one dead sailor is probably from that series.

The spirit that posses Usagi has grace, likes to cook, sketch and play
the violin. She is therefore Kaiou Michiru aka Sailor Neptune.

The person Usagi visits lives in an estate, has a strong sense of
responsibility (she hesitates twice, once at dinner, once in bed), is
sketched with a sword, is said to be handsome and shared a bed with
Michiru. She is therefore Ten'ou Haruka aka Sailor Uranus.

The procedure Usagi invokes comes from her mother, depends on knowledge
of the nature of the spirit to be acted on and gives them a rebirth.
Usagi is using the same trick her mother used on them all to send them
forwards to the twentieth century, the first time they all died.

The "he" referred to twice is Usagi's he, therefore Chiba Mamoru aka
Tuxedo Kamen.

Why was this story written?

A while back in one of the Anime newsgroups, it was asked "which sailor's
death would have the most impact?", this story answers the complementary
question. (The Sailor Neptune fans should be arraigning a lynching
right now, both of them. ;-)
