P.S. you guys better be fucking pissed cuz I did this.
Oftentimes, Mr. Choe, a whisper is far more effective than a shout.
I can't beleive it, people giving C&C to C&C's instead of giving them to
stories. The question is why in the world didn't anyone tell me that they
didn't like what I was doing when I started doing this a year ago?
I will read all flames.
but
I will destory anything that tells me how to C&C. If you know how it's
done, go C&C 10 fics a month. I don't care about how little time you have.
Just do it.
A lot of us do, only we report our findings in private. That way, nobody
feels any undue pressure from the ML or others - just the reviewer and
reviewee.
I admit I'm probably not the best C&C person. I will usually be much
more harsh on the 'serious' Ranma 'fics than any others, simply because
it is my specialty, and I expect certain rules to be followed when
writing them. As such, I prefer to keep my findings in private, as I may
be wrong, and the person at the other end of the review does not deserve
to have a bad review made public, nor the others on this ML to have their
opinion of the work swayed by my words. That is a difficult thing for me
sometimes, and I have crossed that line on several occasions, usually to
my personal regret.
Ironically, I tend to be most harsh on those who I hold in highest
esteem, as I know their potential. There is one writer who I have given
an OOC flag to EVERY work he has written; however, his skill in
storytelling has taken my breath away. There is another whose recent
work I slammed mercilessly in my frustration, perhaps with too much
zeal; however, I look forward to reading his most recent release with
great anticipation, once my own work is completed. Why am I so harsh?
Because they're good, among the best, and they can be better.
The negative reaction to people's C&C is a regrettable thing, though it
does happen sometimes. About all I can say is to keep up the good work,
as it does help. If you fear that a negative reaction of a review will
occur, simply don't post the review publicly.
It is necessary to enjoy at least some of the works you're C&C-ing. One
of the problems I got into earlier is that I was C&C-ing works I wasn't
enjoying. During my time away from the ML, I chose works sparingly, and
enjoyed most of the works I C&C'd. Chris Willmore sent a glowing praise
of one of Biles' recent works, and so I asked John if I could review it.
I was not disappointed; "A Tokyo Senshi in Queen Rei's Court" is one of
Biles' masterpieces, and I would recommend it to anyone, Sailor Moon
fan or no, to read. Ironically, I still had suggestions for improving
the work. In other words, if you're not enjoying the C&C, leave the work
be. If you are, say so. I doubt you would continue to review LiL if you
didn't enjoy it. Right now, I am still choosing my works with more
prudence, as I do not wish a blow-up like what happened earlier.
Thanks for giving me the fuel to restart this bad reputation of ffml. Now
everyone is going to be disgusted and leave.
Heh.
