pray he's still out there... somewhere"

A guttural roar pushed the persuit special along, its rubber
tyres clutching the asphalt like the fingers of a man over a
cliff. The whine of the turbine blower outperformed any known
hurricane. Leon shifted his fingers, working the sweat out from
under them, stretching the ache out.

Names came to mind. The Nightrider. The Toecutter. Those
Names represented his genesis. Names the wind didn't even whisper
anymore. Dissipated in the past. Leon's eyesight never left
the glowing tail lights, being drawn in. closer. ever so much
nearer. His knee raised and dropped, left arm pumping clutch up
into the highest gear. Ever so much closer now. And with
closeness came a Name. The Griffin.

Thoughts, memories, feelings. It was like a pantomime inside
his head. Of Priss extolling the virtues of her bike to him.
Her baby. The thing was practically family. Half sitting, half
leaning against the seat, patting the gas tank. Singing. God
how she loved to sing. Opening up when she was on the stage with
that spectacular voice. The warmth and familiarity of her body
next morning. A patrol mans voice over the static police radio
echoing over and over. Hit and run they said. hit n run.

Leon's Interceptor kissed the Griffin on the bum. Invasive
action. "This is it dog." First words in a long time. The blue
healer in the passenger seat meerly panted and flicked its short
ears. The Griffin's tail end wavered a bit, crossing in front of
Leon. Dammit! Leon nudged The Griffin several times, trying to
make a hole in the envelope, trying to draw alongside. Patience.

With one hand on the wheel, the other feeds two shotgun
cartridges into the breach. Its barrel has been sawn off.
Dog whimpers a little and jumps into the back seat.

The two cars duck and weave back and forth. back and forth.
Playing hard to get. Leon points the hood of the car to the left
and guns the engine. The Griffin counter-responds to the left
but Leon is too fast. The nose of the Interceptor pushes quickly
to the right. Sparks and the keening of a metallic banshee let
out as the two sidled together.

One cartridge disintegrated and The Griffin's driver side
window imploded slivers of black ice. Leon looked tried to look
through the shattered window and saw the empty cockpit. Computer
controlled. How could he make it pay for what it did to Priss,
when it couldn't even feel pain.

Pushing the weight of the Interceptor against it, nudging the
other car. He dropped back. "This is it dog, hopefully."
Dog stopped gnawing its bone and looked at Leon from the back
seat, watching with keen eyes. Leon leaned out of the car a bit,
the shotgun extended like a lance. He tried to take aim without
success. The road too bumpy and the speed causing too much wind
resistance. Trying to think of another way to do the job made
him remember the old name for a shotgun. A Scattergun, aka
Splattergun. Precision aiming was secondary as long as you
pointed it in the right direction.

He leaned out of the car again, repointing the muzzle.
*CHATOOOM* the muzzle flash already kilometers behind from the
speed.

The Griffon swerved with imbalance. No rear drivers side tyre.
The Interceptor swerved in avoidance but The Griffon jack knifed
and rolled and exploded. Dog didn't even have time to bark as
Leon plowed directly into the other car. Two hundred and sixteen
kilometers per hour. The twin high-octane canisters flickering
into life, a blooming twilight on the MegaTokyo highway.

"Mad Leon" just doesn't have the same ring as "Mad Max" ^_^
