   For the tenth time this semester I've recieved a piece of C&C
informing me that I've misspelled the name of everyone's
favorite Lost Boy. This note was more forceful than the
previous ones, stating that the spelling "Ryoga" is only used in
"the sorry viz dubs probably overseen by Trish". In responce,
and to air a few views of my own, this essay will examine the
case of romanization and the use of "o" vs "ou".

In an interesting counterpoint, I get email from people telling me I
misspell Ryoga and Ukyo. One person says he takes all of my stories and
replaces the "Ryoga"'s with "Ryouga"'s. Another person, after I
informed them that I was using the official Viz romanizations, asked me,
"Do you want to do it the official way or the right way?"

I'm glad for your essay. Not only does it strongly support my way
(Ryoga et. al.), but its main point is very good: you can do it either
way, and it doesn't make any difference. If even the Japanese
government is not consistent, who can blame us English-speakers for
using different spellings?

Thanks for sharing that with us.
