This bit also bothered me, I am glad you explained it. I still wonder 
if that they agreed with the idea too quickly. Especially after their 
family's Samurai heritage had just been emphasized. 

Having said that, I am also looking forward to the next chapter.

Nothing odd about it.

Ninja are at least within societies bounds.  Ninja supposedly arose from
the lowest ranks of Japanese society, although that is doubtful as there
are certain aspects of the training which would not make sense if this was
the case, especially in certain techniques which have been handed down
since the forth century.

To be "lower than that from which the ninja arose" means that he is lower
than any form of existance and is not a member of society even if Japanese
born.  Ranma would be considered outside all society and shunned by all.
If the insult were true, then no one would attend or see ranma even if he
was right in front of them.

That is the insult.
