  Actually Japanese is worse, a friend of mine who lived in Japan told me that
they refer to their own language as "the Devil's Own Tongue".

Of course there's a reason.  English is a damned evil language!  It's
full of words that sound exactly the same, yet have completely different
spellings and meanings.  i.e. its & it's; you're & your; there, their, &
they're; etc.

You won't find these difficulties within Romantic languages like Spanish
or French.  I can't say about Japanese, though, since I hardly know any.
