For all you Bubblegum Crisis Fanfic Authors out there:
I just got hold of the Bubblegum Crisis Role playing game by R.T.G.
It's very useful as a sourcebook as well as a game. Lots of art (most of
the colour stuff is on the net, but character designs don't appear to be
and there's _Lots_ of background material and ideas even if you don't
want to play the game itself such as area descriptions.
The only problems are they've gone overboard on the KS themselves. Not
so much the combat skill levels as the Breadth of skills...Sylia
Stingray is Frightening!
The other problem from a game point of view is it's difficult to run a
hardsuit based campaign. You have two cheesey choices : Run the KS
themselves (Same problem as a StarTrek campaign : Cry of anguish "You
Killed Capt Kirk??????" ) or run another band of power suited vigilantes
which bends credulity into a pretzel (either independently developed or
Another Data Unit?)
This means you pretty have to use the KS in background and run the game
in a slightly different sphere. One option is to run a group of
'Security consultants" or trouble shooters, similar sort of role as the
KS a little lower key and without the hardsuits. Then if you're GM and
turn up the cruelty knob, have them hired by GENOM through a front and
sic the KS on them... the scramble to (a) survive, (b) foil a GENOM plot
that probably Needs to be stopped and (c) still get paid...
The interesting thing is that there is already precedent for internal
politics in GENOM, it's not the monolith it appears to be.
Well, anyway, it's a VERY handy resource for writing. If you've never
looked into a game store take the opportunity. I'm using it in _my_
story.
