He was shown in a flashback scene wearing something different when he
took the plunge. (Vol. 2 part 8 in the original manga, part 2 of trade
paperback 2 in the Viz translation). A plain headband (no spots). So
one would presume he picked up the bandannas we know afterwards.

Actually, as of the Saotome's arrival at the Tendo residence, only
one month had passed since Jusenkyo... therefore, at the end of the
series... roughly only a year has passed for Ryouga's stuff at the bottom,
so some of it still ought to be okay...
