I despise those things with just about every inch of my 
body. You can stay up late and watch them if you want. I 
just like watching the movies and listening to the CDs. The 
person gets more money than I could ever possibly dream 
about. What the heck do they need a little gold statue that 
says "Gee you are great" for? Shouldn't the fact that their 
film/album/whatever did well be enough sign that they are 
doing well? The one time I DID watch the awards it was the 
most artificial thing I had ever seen.

Marisa, people are entitled to their opinions.  After all, isn't that
*exactly* what an award is, an opinion?  All fine and good to say that
you disagree, but no reason to say that these "awards" shouldn't even be
held.  Think:  not everyone has the time to read EVERY fic.  If someone
decides to read a fic because it got an "award", then so much the better
for the author of that fic.  Now, I do agree that flooding the FFML with
post after post of everybody's "award list" is pointless and spammy, but
if someone wants to congratulate an author for what THEY think is a job
well done, that's fine, and as it should be.  If they actually state
that this is their opinion, that's even better.  A little tolerance all
around is nice, ne?
