Spoilers for "Thy Outward Part", "Building Bridges" and "The Nature
of Love" below...

Having finished "Burning Bridges", I think I've finally
identified what it is that bothers me about this story and the
prequel and sequel by Mr. Lawson - the shallow and hypocritical
nature of the Akane presented in these stories.
Hmmm....not a bad idea.
The actual title is "Building Bridges", to bridge "Thy Outward Part"
to "The Nature of Love" and to symbolize Ranma's deepening relationship with
Kentaro, or something, but "Burning Bridges" is also great, symbolic of
Ranma's burning of her ties with her old life. Thanks for the idea of a new
title, however unintentional it may be.
I'm glad that "Building Bridges" (the title may change :)) helped
you identify what had been bothering you.
As one of the 30%, I'm a little dubious about how many
people would really try it, but be that as it may. What about the
converse, the poll dealing with the situation Akane finds herself in?
That is one of the reasons why I wrote Building Bridges, to fill in
some details of what happened when Ranma left Kentaro's room in a huff back
in Thy Outward Part.
The Akane presented in these stories frankly is not nearly as likable a
character as the one we know from the manga.
Which was the point of me and Lawson portraying Akane so (though
Lawson resolved it at the end of TNOL)
As I think about it, in fact, nearly everyone in these
stories lets Ranma down very badly. If we take the OOC behavior of
Ranma and Akane in stride, I don't much blame Ranma for choosing
Kentaro over this Akane. Indeed, the thing I find more dubious is
that he would want anything to do with any of these people again.
Once again, I'm glad that Building Bridges helped to bridge the gap
for you. Thanks for reading it. ^_^
