Actually I think Ranma would choose to leave Akane if he decides
that
Akane didn't want him anymore.  In the Shinnosuke story, he was about
to leave her forever, right?  Of course, the problem I've with Zen's story
is that no matter what Ranma should've come back and say good-bye. 
Ranma's strong enough to say that, and of course I still cannot agree
with why Ukyou was chosen... even over Shampoo.

heh, in that Shinnosuke story, Ranma didn't go back to confront Akane or
say goodbye.  He just left.  He only said goodbye in his thoughts.  I agree
though, that Ranma might leave under these circumstances.  I agree with
Kun-chan, however, that he wouldn't just leap out and marry someone
else instantly.  He may be impulsive, but not that much so.  I also think he
would choose Shampoo over Ukyou for reasons that have been hashed
out before so I won't repeat them here.
