: Otonashi Kyoko
:       Manager of Maison Ikkoku.  "Maison" implies a mansion or elegant
: house.  In reality, Ikkoku-kan (-apartments) is a run-down building always
: on the verge of falling apart, especially one particular hole between
: Yotsuya's and Godai's room, and sometimes another hole between Godai's
: room and Akemi's room.  Kyoko is a young widow.  Her former husband was
: named Souichiro.  He left her a mangy white dog which she renamed
: Souichiro.

The dog was named thus, even when her husband was still alive.

Nope, when her husband died, she renamed the dog to Souichiro so that the
memory of her husband would live on.  She loved her husband so much, that
renaming the dog to his name was a way, if only slight, to keep him from
dying.

Actually, the dog _thought_ its name was Soichiro (whatever) from the
moment he was brought into the Otonashi household. It would respond
whenever Kyoko said, "Soichiro-san", much to the real Soichiro's ire (and
Kyoko's amusement). After his death, the dog became Soichiro permanently.

That was Viz... This is not so in the manga.  Viz likes to alter things
from time to time.  Check out the NT subs, you'll see, she named the dog
for the man she once loved, AFTER he died.  It wasn't always named
Souichiro.  Mihoshi wonders how Viz got that translation from a completely
different story. o.o

Ack, second time's the charm.  Mihoshi meant to send this to FFML, and
instead sent it to one person.  Mihoshi's bad. ^^;

No, Mihoshi good. If you didn't send this to the FFML, I wouldn't be able
to correct ya on this little error.

Meep, Mihoshi MEANT to send this to FFML... but had sent it to an
individual the first time.  And Mihoshi is not in error.
