     While I in no way disagree that technically "feminine" means, literally,
"resembling females and/or showing characteristics of females", I believe
that the vernacular "feminine" was used by Doug. That is the more (though,
as you said, often incorrect) commonly used definition, and is used when we
talk about Ranma acting "girlish" or acting "feminine".
     I don't go around thinking that all women fall into the vernacular
"feminine." I also don't go around thinking that "masculine" means acting
macho, big-headed, etc. However, when we're dealing with characterizations,
"feminine" and "masculine" work quite well to describe a certain stereotype
which most of us are familiar with.
     Let me also say that I don't believe that Akane should be afraid of the
dark as well, and I have let the author know some suggestions to remedy this
problem while letting him continue the story.

OK, you can continue your ranting now. Hopefully, I just helped stop some
reverse-bigotry there, though.
