Your bang on with that transalation. Senshi does translate into Soldier, 
with the biggest example being Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon -Pretty 
Soldier Sailor Moon.

Anou... My Japanese Dictionary gives the following definition for senshi:
senshi: death in military action; death on the battlefield
and translates soldier thusly:
soldier: heitai

Could someone clear this up? 

My dictionary (Random House J-E/E-J Dictionary) lists both definitions for
senshi ("death in action" and "warrior" [not "soldier"; that is "heishi"
according to the E-J part; "heitai" isn't listed in the J-E part]).  One
thing I like about this dictionary is that it also shows how a word is
written, so I can pick apart the kanji.  The "-shi" sylable is different
between the two (the "sen- syllable in both, according to Henshall's "Guide
to Remembering Japanese Characters", means "fight/war"); one uses a kanji
meaning "death", the other uses one meaning "warrior/scholar/man" (and can
also be pronunced "samurai").  

I hope this clears things up (and I hope I'm right...).
