"Senshi" translates as "soldier" right? If it doesn't, what does it

Your bang on with that transalation. Senshi does translate into Soldier,
with the biggest example being Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon -Pretty
Soldier Sailor Moon.
Anou... My Japanese Dictionary gives the following definition for senshi:
senshi: death in military action; death on the battlefield
and translates soldier thusly:
soldier: heitai
[It's the Living Language Japanese Dictionary, 3rd edition]
Could someone clear this up?
Thanks!
Not using the right kanji here, I believe. The "senshi" you are
referring to uses the "shi" that means "death" (with "sen" meaning
"war"); I won't try to ascii that, sorry. The "senshi" in Sailor Moon
does, in fact, mean warrior; its second character I can take a stab at:

Okay, so I'm no Phil Yff :)
It's in my dictionary, so I would assume your dictionary has omitted this
particular word. "heitai" also means soldier, but it tends to imply a
soldier in the armed forces; senshi has a more general, individual meaning.
