Well, the real question is whether your sexual preference is:
1.  Metaphysical--Built into your soul
2.  Physical--Built into your body
3.  Mental--Built into your mind.

OR some combination of the above, just to make life difficult.

Different periods have taught different reasons WHY some people prefer 
men and other people prefer women.

IF it is mental, it could be changed by will...in fact to say sexual 
preference to some extent insinuates that it is all in the mind and thus 
subject to change.  At the same time, holding that position would also 
make changes in your body irrelevant.

Similarly, if it  is built into your 'soul', there would be nothing you 
could do about it either.

On the other hand, if it is built into your body, then changing physical 
gender might well alter your sexual preference, if it is all or mostly a 
matter of hormones, etc.

My own tendency is to think that it is a mixture of the mental and the 
physical, sufficiently tangled to make life rather aggravating :)

Actually, there have been cultures where people were taught to be 
homosexual regardless of their own inclinations (Think Ancient 
Greece)...now how well this can be taught is another story.

Outside looks don't change the inside person. Someone of the same sex
liking you/lusting after you won't make you change, either, however
nice they are towards you ... It's just not something that happens,
in anything that I've encountered or heard of.

I'd like to think myself free of my body, but unfortunately, my Body 
refuses to agree and cooperate.  The body does affect the mind and vice 
versa to some extent...more than I like.

OF course, it's hard to really discuss this since people don't get 
magical sex changes in RL :)
 

So, basically, I think that the whole story is OOC... for the reactions
of Akane and Genma, too ... It's just not something that they'd do,
just as turning gay, just because he's locked into a girl body, isn't
something that Ranma'd do ...

I dunno...Genma's a twit.  I'd like to think better of Akane though.
