Spoilers below....don't read if you haven't read the story.

Please don't. I find it insulting to have my work compared to this piece.

Yes, listen to him. Look how short my work is...a mere 5k. It was
NEVER, EVER meant to be a serious attempt at a fic. I put the [FF] label in
and the short preword (...such a beautiful fic..sniff..etc etc) and the
overall starting feel of the 'fic' was the 'nice and cuddly' type....so as
to set the reader up for the fall.

I sincerely apologize to Willmore, but I'm no mindreader who knows
every response possible to my fic. It was a parody shockfic and nothing else.

In 'Within the Candle-Flame', I *tried* to make Akari FULLY IC, and she
WAS, to the limits of my knowledge about her then. NOW I know more about
Akari, and the story would be more subtle if I wrote it...

I tried to make Akane IC, all the way up to the kitchen scene.

What I did, in a phrase that I've been using a lot lately, was fill the
lacunae in the character with things that didn't contradict the canon.
For example: Akari owns a pig-farm, and runs it enthusiastically? She must
enjoy killing pigs, and selling them for meat. Which probably also meant
that she liked the taste of pork. And so on.

Pig-farm? Wasn't it a sumo-pig dojo or something? This is assuming that
you knew less about her then than you do now.

Where, I ask, is the power in a dark/shock-'fic if the chars are completely
OOC?

Again this OOC label. The OOC label only applies at the end. My
Kasumi the Axe Murderess was not a shockfic because Kasumi was IC all the
way, even when she was hacking the panda to bits (with a double-edged axe,
which Akane was using in 'Akane loves P-chan'), but it was a darkfic.

Shockfic : Nothing is known about the character's true intent until the end,
or near the end, where they can go horribly OOC. A good attempt is made to
set the reader up with IC descriptions, luring them to believe that a
'tender' story or otherwise is in store for them. An example would be that
MI fic a short while back, where Yusaku and Kyoko have killed the cast of MI
and Yusaku burned the house down.

The power of such a story lies in the fact that one can have the characters
committing/being submitted to horrible things without contradicting anything
in the anime/manga. Otherwise, why the heck should anyone care?

That is a darkfic.

Here's another 'shock-fic''.

It was a sunny day in El-Hazard, and everyone was happy until Mr.
Fujisawa killed Makoto in a bloody way for no reason whatsoever. Tsk.

That is not a shockfic because there was no attempt to 'set the reader up',
or to lull the reader with IC events.

BWAHAHA! Wasn't that a great shock? -.-

It is a great shock to see that at least one person still didn't get the
basic structure of a shockfic.

The 'Akane loves P-Chan' 'fic ANGERED me. A LOT. As a writer of dark-'fics,
I spend most of my time trying to make everything perfectly IC.

You write darkfics, I write shockfics. As said before, my Kasumi the
Axemurderess is a darkfic and everything, even till the end, was perfectly
IC. There were many ominous foreshadowing things that I threw in (*SHING*
*SHING* *SHING*, the conversation) and people sorta get the idea that
something TERRIBLE is about to befall Genma.

I DETEST those, like that person who wrote one of the Ryouga-rapes-Akane
stories, who take 'Dark' as license to go OOC. It isn't. If anything, it
means one has to be all the more IC, otherwise the story is WORTHLESS.

You know the whole bit about Darkfic vs Shockfic by now.....

You took 'Shock' in your El-Hazard shockfic as a license to warp the true
reasoning behind writing a shockfic. You know the whole bit so I won't
reexplain it.

It is explicitly stated in the manga AND the anime that Akane IS fond
of her P-Chan, and Webdragon gave NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER for her murdering
him like she did. Hence, the only 'shock' was that anyone would try to
pass this off as a Ranma 'fic.

Of course I gave no excuse whatsoever and I give no excuse
now....the fact that Akane chops P-chan in to two in the last paragraph,
after all the flowery talk, is the shock.

Now, if he'd given a suitable REASON... For instance, if Akane had just
learned about Ryouga's curse, AND gone through some severe psychological
and physical stress recently to stretch her to the breaking point, THEN
it could make a VERY good dark-'fic. [In fact, if Webdragon will allow
me, I would like to write that version, as an example of what a dark-'fic
SHOULD be like.] As is, I find the story pointless, and, as mentioned
above, an insult to writers of dark-'fics everywhere.

I wanted, so badly, to label my story a [shockfic] but that would
ruin the shock-effect of the story.....so I put the label at the end, in the
author's notes.

Sure, go ahead and write a darkfic version of my shockfic. I'll
also write one of my own, to show that I know the difference between a
shockfic and a darkfic.

My apologies if this seems like a flame; it isn't meant to be. Using
'Dark=condoned OOC' is an all-too-frequent occurrence, and 'Akane Loves
P-Chan' is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record....

I only labeled my story [FF]
I never said it was a darkfic
I said, explicitly, that it was a shockfic
        Shock=condoned OOC

Equation for a shockfic....

Serious attempt at setting the IC mood + OOC occurance at the end
