unreadable on fixed-width mailreaders, and even on an adjustable

Please reformat your texts before you attach them. There is a
*reason* for the 72 character rule on Usenet and it doesn't hurt
to obey it elsewhere.

In this last paragraph you are using the so-called "smart quotes",
which, I am sure, look fine on your display. They don't, on mine
at home, and the cheap old terminal at the Uni becomes garbled and
completely unreadable if I try to display the text on it.
These opening and closing quotes are *not* part of the Latin-1
encoding that this text was declared to be in the MIME header and
certainly not part of ASCII (which, after all, only defines 7-bit
characters). They are completely idiosyncratic definitions of
whatever platform you used to write this fic.
I had to replace them with normal doublequotes for the sake of
this posting, because my mailing software complains about 8-bit
characters in plain text. Others are not so fortunate - Jerome,
for example, had his mail software crashed - even got unsubbed
from the list - because I stupidly forgot to correct an accented
'e' in one of my texts and sent it out with the 8-bit character
embedded.
Please remember: what looks good and works fine on your computer
may look bad and even be damaging on others. To make your fic
accessible to everybody, there are very simple limitations to be
obeyed: keep it in ASCII and below 80 (better: 72) characters and
everybody will be happy.
Perhaps even happy enough to give you C&C. ;)
Now about the *story*...
I am enjoying this series more and more. Even though this part
was centered around the new home life of the three main
characters, you managed to give some character development to a
lot of the supporting characters, adding depth to them and clueing
us in on their pasts in this universe. I can't wait to see what
you have in store with Shampoo and Mousse. Kunou will, no doubt,
turn out to be interesting.
And I still love Ranko. (although that goes without saying)
