That's a neat idea. I wonder how much this will help Ranma
settling in - if he does that at all.

Very good. A lot of people just assume that Ranma's stupid - I
don't think so. He reacts quickly and accurately to changed
situations and in combat he knows how to assess his opponent's
skills and weaknesses. He is just not used to applying his
intelligence elsewhere.
