This story takes place just after the first episode of Dragonball GT.
For those of you not familiar with GT I will recap the first episode.
Pilaf returns, albeit aged, he makes it to heaven and finds the galaxy
dragon balls. Pilaf finds Goku in heaven (yes Goku is alive), in his
excitement, he accidentally wishes Goku a child again. The dragon
balls scatter. As usual Goku beats Pilaf, and Pilaf goes running.
Goku returns from heaven after completing the training of the
young boy at the end of Z.
Pan now about to enter her teens struggles with her family to
gain recognition as an adult. Pan “rescues” Goku from a band of
bank robbers who unfortunately picked the bank across the place
Goku had decided to eat. Goku returns to his family, Pan freaks
because her grandfather is younger than her, and gets more respect.
The rest of the family takes it rather well, OK Chichi loses it.
Bloomer (Bulma, however you want to translate it) makes a
spaceship for Goku to find the galaxy dragon balls (since they
made the change they have to change him back). Goku leaves
immediately, intending to take Trunks and Goten. Pan stows away
on the ship to prove her adulthood. While Goten is on the boarding
ladder talking to his girlfriend on the phone, Trunks and Goku find
Pan. Pan immediately hits the launch button, leaving Goten behind.
As they launch, a piece of the ship is left behind, I’m not sure what
it was supposed to do. I am assuming that it had something to do
with their communications as no one ever called for Pan to return.
This is where I will pick up with Goten.
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
The blast from the ship engulfed Goten, singed his clothes
slightly melted the cel phone he was caring.
“Ara, they left me behind”
He watched the ship as it left the Earth. Then he heard two
familiar voices calling from the launch tower. It was mom, and his
sister in law Bidel. He saw them running to the ladder where he was.
“Pan, Pan!”
“Pan?” Goten thought.
His mother paused for a minute catching her breath, Bidel needed
no such wait.
“Pan, did you see her in the ship?”
“Pan? What would she be doing on the ship?”
Still slightly panting his mother held up a note.
“Gee mom, you better exercise more.” Goten took the note and
read it.
Dear family,
In order to prove that I am self-sufficient, I have decided to go
with grandfather on his search for the dragon balls. You all said it
would be tough, I am willing and want to show you all that I can
rise to the challenge. Hopefully this won’t take too long.
Love you all,
Pan
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Said Goten as he looked up to
see the ship wink out of sight.
“No, we searched for her everywhere. She must have been on
board the ship,” said Chichi, finally catching her breath.
“Well, I hope you’ve all said your good-byes to them for a while,”
Bloomer said as she walked up behind them.
Bidel turned around and glared at Bloomer. “What do you mean
‘goodbye for a while’?”
“Well I’ve identified this chip that fell off the ship as it left the
atmosphere. This is from their communication system. They won’t
be able to send or receive anything. At least not until Trunks figures
it out, I’m sure he can replace it.”
“You mean, Pan won’t be able to get back? Goku will never
take enough care of her! He probably won’t even think it’s a big
deal!” said Chichi as she stomped off for home.
“You’d think Pan was her child,” complained Goten.
“No, she’s just a little over protective, you should know that,”
Bidel returned.
“Yeah, but I haven’t been at the center of her motherly nature
since Pan was born. I guess I sort of forgot.”
“Don’t worry, give her an hour or two to calm down before you
go home. She should be resigned to it by then.” Bidel walked off
the launch pad, following after Chichi.
Bloomer and Goten stood thinking for a while.
“Well, I guess this means you’ll be the only one helping Begita
at the Capsule Corp. office then, hunh,” Said Bloomer with a smirk.
“Oh no, without Trunks to help I’ll never be able to get away
from Begita when we... I want to take the day off. We’ll never...
I’ll never be able to escape the office!”
Goten looked dumbstruck, unable to comprehend life no matter
how short without his constant companion, and sometimes rival,
Trunks.
“Come on, it won’t be that bad. Begita isn’t that tough. Besides,
if you give me a little fore warning I’ll help keep him off your back
while you play. Children need their time off.”
Help from an unexpected source. Goten never expected Bloomer
to be his partner in crime. Then again she may just be nostalgic, she
is an old lady after all. Goten just looked more dumbstruck.
“Uh, thanks Aunty Bloomer. I think...”
“Drop the ‘aunty’, and your welcome. Come on I know what it’s
like to be a kid. You want to be out in the sun, maybe find a girl?
Remember, drop me a line.” Bloomer walked off the launch pad.
Goten blushed a bit then waited, thinking for a while longer. He
then just shrugged and began to walk home.
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
Goten had just walked in the door. His mother sat catatonic in
the one chair remaining in the living room. From the state of the
room he had guessed his mothers’ condition upon her arrival at the
Son home. Other than the chair, a single table, and a book shelf,
nothing in the room remained unscathed. Obviously Bidel had been
here to comfort, or at least calm, Chichi.
Goten silently walked past his mother, hopefully he could make
it back to his room without her noticing.
“Whew, made it, I’d better call Seema. She’s probably wondering
why my message broke up like that...”
When Goten had finished talking to Seema, it was already well
into the night. He was hungry. Jumping out his window to look in the
living room, he saw his mother still sitting in her chair.
“Well, obviously I’m not going to get any food here, at least not
until Pan comes back. Even then, only if she comes back without
any scars. Knowing dad, and the way trouble follows him, that isn’t
very likely... Gohan! I can beg a meal off of Gohan. After I’ve eaten,
we’re going to have to move mom over to his house. In her state right
now she couldn’t take care of herself, much less have enough energy
to keep me fed.”
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
Goten, Gohan, and Chichi sat at a table in the dining room in
Gohan’s home. Bidel worked busily in the kitchen.
“Yeah, she’s been this way since I came home,” said Goten.
“I suppose we could take care of you two. It’ll be just like when
I was in high school, hunh?”
“So long as you don’t pull that Sayaman stunt, I can live with it.”
came from over Gohan’s’ shoulder.
“It’ll only be until Pan gets back anyway. Besides it’s only a
couple of mouths. Hopefully we can get mom to eat,” said Gohan.
“Unforgivable.” It was so soft Gohan and Goten barely noticed it.
“Did mom just?” said both concurrently.
“Unforgivable, absolutely unforgivable! If so much as a scratch
is on her when they get back, he won’t have to worry about growing
old!” Chichi began to throw another fit.
Gohan and Goten took cover under the table. Bidel stayed behind
the kitchen door until the intensity of the crashing from the dining
room died down a bit, then strode bravely out the door. It took the
better part of an hour, but Bidel finally got Chichi calmed down.
“You two are hopeless,” she said to the two figures cowering
beneath the dining room table.
“You weren’t raised by her,” came from under the table.
The rest of the night passed quietly. The group went to their beds
oblivious to the two figures floating outside a second story window.
“Which one, Buzz.”
“The young one with the long hair seems the easiest to manipulate.
The others may cause too many problems. One second stage Super
Sayajin is enough trouble, we don’t need all three on the planet after
us, do we Pauli?”
“Three?”
“The other two jumped planet for some reason, it’s of no
consequence though. We only need one.”
“How are we going to get him?”
“Watch and learn Pauli, watch and learn.”
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
Goten woke early the next morning to begin his exercises. Like
the other Sayajin he had been getting lax in his training. Gohan had
devoted his life to his college students, and abandoned his martial arts.
Trunks had become a businessman, again leaving martial arts behind
him. Begita had gone the way of his son, neglecting his Saya nature.
Goten still trained, when other things didn’t interfere, school, friends,
and anything else that came up. About the only ones who trained
regularly were Goku and Pan.
Even Pan only trained because she felt she had something to
prove to everyone. What with both her grandfathers being the
greatest martial artists on the planet. OK one of them was, the other
just had enough money to buy the Grand Championship Martial
Arts Tournament. Goku on the other hand, never ceased to train.
Perhaps he too felt he needed to prove something.
“This morning I’ll run past Seema’s house. I’m a lot closer now
that I’m with Gohan.”
Goten’s run gave him time to give his current situation some
thought.
“I should be glad that they left me behind. Seema and I will
have some much needed time together. With Trunks gone I don’t
need to divide my attentions anymore. Assuming Aunt Bloomer
keeps true to her word, I should be able to scam more than enough
time off.”
Goten reached Seema’s house and sat on the wall. He stared at
the house in the predawn light for some time before he noticed
something was amiss.
“There is no ki coming from her room. She didn’t say she was
going to be visiting anyone last night. I wonder what’s going on.”
Goten swiftly made his way back home, taking less than half
the time it took him to get to Seema’s house. He was greeted by
Bidel, who was in the front yard hanging the laundry out to dry.
“Out exercising?”
“Yeah, uh, what time is it?”
“Seven-thirty.”
“Damn.”
“What?”
“Uh, nothing, I’ll be inside.”
Goten walked into the bathroom to take a shower.
“It’s a little early to be calling. I think I’ll just get clean and wait
around for an hour or so. Everyone should be up by then, hopefully.”
Goten finished his shower rather quickly. Not being able to wait
very much longer Goten reached for the phone less than a half an
hour later.
“Ring, ring.”
“Hello,” came the voice on the other end of the phone.
“Hello, is Seema there?”
“Uh, no, sorry Goten. She left us a note saying she left early
this morning, something about visiting her grandparents. We’ll
give them a call for you later.”
“Well, thank you.” Click.
“She didn’t tell me anything about this. I wonder what’s wrong?
Oh well I guess I’ll just go upstairs and veg for a little while.”
Goten went to his room to be greeted by a letter hovering above
his desk.
“Strange. How is it doing that?”
Goten reached for the letter. It seemed plain enough, but he had
some deep foreboding about opening it. He opened it anyway, hoping
it was something from Seema.
To Son Goten,
The time for rest is over now. Don’t even think about telling
anyone about this letter, we have your girlfriend as an insurance
policy. Our master, Lord Sapporo, seeks an audience with you.
You will leave your planet and go to a lunar orbit, there you will
receive further instructions. You have a week and a half to prepare.
From,
Sapporo Army
“Great, how do I know that this is not some stupid joke. If this is
true though, how am I supposed to comply?”
“Guess you better figure that one out boy.” The voice came
from behind him, out the window.
“Who’s there?”
Goten looked out the window to see a fast disappearing figure
flying away.
“Stop! Wait! I need to ask you some things... Damn it! Ka...
Me...”
:Don’t do it boy:
“Ka... Me..”
:You better not blast me boy. You never know the consequences.:
“Kuso... Ha!” The Blast went wide completely missing the mark.
It was as if the sky filled with two suns, at least as Bidel saw the
situation. Then one of the suns streaked across the sky to leave the
Earth. It looked like it came from Goten’s’ room. She quickly
dropped the laundry to run to his room. When she reached the room
Goten was already packing.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m just going on a little journey for a while. Don’t worry I
should be back shortly.”
Goten picked up his things put them in a pack and collapsed the
capsule.
“Talk to Aunt Bloomer if you need to contact me.”
With no further banter Goten made his way to Bloomers’ house.
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
“That’s right. I want to follow dad and the others in their search.
I’m feeling kind of useless here.”
“You know, you’ll probably never find them.”
“I’m sure you can figure out a way Bloomer.” Goten was about
to add the ‘Aunt’ but, he knew better, not if he was to get any help
here.
“Of course, eventually they will find a few of the dragon balls.
When they do, you will be able to pick them up on the dragon radar.
I’ll start building you another ship right away. Though, are you sure
you aren’t doing this just to get away from Begita?”
“Partly, but that’s not the main reason.” Which was true, painfully.
“I’m going to head off to Lord Karins’ for about a week.”
“I should be done by then.”
“Oh, one more thing. Could you include a gravity room in the
ship?”
“Sure, but, why would you need it?”
“I’ve been slacking in my training, guess we all have. I figured
since I would have a lot of time on this trip, I would train.”
“I’ll do it, but it’s not like Boo is coming back again or anything.”
“I know... Thanks.”
With that Goten went to a window and jumped out.
“Kin ton.” The candy cloud answered immediately. It was now
serving its’ third master, and still as loyal as ever. It snatched him
up before he hit ground.
“To Karin Tower.”
The candy cloud speed off to its’ assigned destination. At the
bottom of the pillar was the Indian village. Goten’s’ father had
friends here but Goten knew no one, so he continued without much
introduction. He had the candy cloud land next to the base of the
pillar. He got no few glances from the residents, but they were used
to people attempting to climb the tower. He began to fly up on his
own power, this raised a few eyebrows. If one were to loose sight
of the pillar it would become obscured and the potential climber
would become lost, and have to start over. He didn’t have time to
be dawdling around like that.
Goten made it to the top of the pillar in no time. He was
greeted at the window to Lord Karin’s house by Yajirobei.
“Yo, Goten. What are you doing here?”
“I came to ask a favor of Lord Karin.”
“Well, he’s down in the living room. I’ll go get him if you’d like.”
“Please.”
Yajirobei disappeared through the staircase leading down to the
rest of Lord Karin’s home. Shortly a cat with a walking staff came
up the stairway.
“Yajirobei says you need me for something. What is it Goten?
Nya.”
“If you wouldn’t mind, I was wondering if you would give me a
supply of magic beans.”
“Of course, but why? Nya.”
“I’m chasing after dad in his search for the dragon balls, and
figured what better time to train.”
“It’s always a good idea to train. Things have been quiet too. Nya.”
“I’m grateful.”
“Hora yo, nya.” Lord Karin threw Goten a small bag full of magic
beans.
“Well I’d stay longer but I’ve got to be going.”
“Good luck on your quest. You’ll need it. Nya.” The last part of
that was so soft that Goten didn’t hear it as he leapt out of the
window.
“What was that, geezer?”
“Show more respect to your elders! Nya!” Thwack! Karin’s
staff impacted on Yajirobei’s head, the lump started to form almost
instantaneously.
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
The rest of Goten’s week was spent in various places around the
world, visiting mostly. First to the Turtle Elder’s house, his mother
had always thrown a fit whenever he went here on his own. She
didn’t know he was here this time, and at this point she probably
could care less. The Turtle Elder was as hospitable as ever, perhaps
a bit more perverted.
Goten’s next stop was with his grandfather The Bull Lord. He
had decided to cut his stay at the castle a little short. Anytime anyone
of even slight power came to Frying Pan Plain bad things began to
happen.
His final stop was very close to home. Begita. He found Begita
in his office at the top of the Capsule Corp. tower.
“And, just what have you been doing?!” Begita was furious.
“A little training and paying my respects before I leave.”
“To what end? There are no threats to the world anymore. Any
one of us could amass that kind of power again with very little time...
Before you leave?! What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I’m going off to help my dad.”
“Oh, no you’re not. You were obviously left behind for a reason,
to help me.”
“I’m sorry Uncle Begita, I’m just not cut out to be a businessman
like you and Trunks. I’ve got to pick my own way. I’m off.” Goten
flew out of Trunks’s escape hole.
“Wait... Damn him.” “With both of them gone, there is no fun in
this. I can’t do half the paperwork they do. I was looking forward to
winning the game more often as well, apart they didn’t stand a chance.”
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
“Is the ship ready yet A... Bloomer.” It almost slipped, he almost
cut off his one hope of saving Seema.
“You caught yourself, you’re forgiven. Yes the ship is done, with
all the alterations you wanted. I was just fueling it when you walked in.”
The ship looked like a cross between a rocket and a sphere. It
was more than large enough to accommodate him, after all it was
initially designed to hold his father, Trunks, and himself. It had three
levels the lower one was the engine room, the second was the bridge
and most of the training area, the third was an observation room and
the sleeping area.
“There is a bed for you, and a chest for your things on the top
level. You have enough food to last two years, at the rate you people
eat. The refrigeration capsules are in the drawer under the navigation
seat. I do wish you would take someone with you though. There is
no way you would be able to repair the ship if it were to breakdown.”
“I’m not that helpless.”
“Oh really?”
“OK maybe I am.”
“That’s more like it, I was about to leave the automated repair
system, that I so painstakingly put in just for you, off. See how much
you’d like it then.”
**The worst part is I wouldn’t put it past her.** “So then, I’m
ready for take off?”
“The ship’s ready, you’re not.”
“What do you mean?”
“I haven’t fitted you for a space suit yet. There may be a situation
where you need to leave the ship to affect repairs. In which case
you will be in continual contact with me, of course.”
“OK then, lets get done.” Then quieter, “I don’t have much time”
“What was that?”
“Nothing.”
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
Goten was just strapping himself into the pilot’s seat when
Bloomer came on the view screen.
“Be careful now. Contact me if you need anything.”
“I will. How do I use the auto pilot anyway?”
“Just call up the galaxy map on the holographic projector, touch
where you want to go, and the computer will read off the coordinates
to you. Then, it’s just a simple matter of punching buttons. Don’t
worry the computer will take the safest route. If you just want to
remain in orbit, just hit hold.”
“I’m relived it’s that easy... I think...” **I wonder if that was
an insult?**
“Ten seconds to blast off... Five... Four... Three... Two... One...
Launch.”
Goten felt the massive G’s of take off. The G meter on his view
screen read ten. Soon he was seeing stars, quite literally. He made
for a lunar orbit and hit the auto to wait for his message.
Goten was waiting for three hours, with no end in sight, when
his communication screen crackled to life. A blue skinned man
with devilishly orange eyes appeared on the screen.
“I’m glad to see you made it. You weren’t here for our first
transmission, then again, we didn’t think you would actually take
a whole week to prepare. Perhaps you’re too soft for our
purposes.”
“Never mind that just tell me where to go.”
“I’m sure the Earthling will be happy to hear you came for it. I’ll
transmit the map data now, more information will follow when you
are in a orbit around the planet Shishi”
A flashing dot appeared on the galaxy map. The transmission
ended. Goten pointed at the place where the dot was, got his
coordinates and entered them into the computer.
“Strange. That planet isn’t supposed to be livable. Oh well, that
gives me ten days to train, if the computer’s estimate is correct.”
Goten said to himself as the ship began to accelerate.
The first day Goten set the Gravity room to thirty G’s. He
began to exercise. It took most of the day to get used to that much.
Within the next two days Goten had maxed out the gravity room
at three hundred G’s.
Now that his strength was up to par, he began to train as only
a Sayajin could. Ki blasts went flying all around the room. While
they never touched the walls, they weren’t so kind with him. He
dodged until one of them hit him, that usually left him off balance
enough to where all the rest of them would strike him. This usually
left him unable to move for a few hours. When he was able he
would then get a magic bean, let it rejuvenate him, then start the
process all over again.
Sooner than he would have liked, he reached orbit around planet
Shishi. The sensor report told him that the atmosphere was 80
percent ammonia.
“Why’d they choose a place like this?”
The communication screen came to life once again. The same
blue warrior appeared on the screen.
“Your ship moves pretty fast. We didn’t expect you here quite
yet. That’s OK, land at this point on the planet. When you are close
enough for visual contact, you will see a landing beacon.” A map
appeared on screen, the lighted dot was near the equator.
“We’ll be waiting for you.”
“I want to see Seema.”
“Sure.” Seema appeared to be asleep, but otherwise unharmed.
Then the transmission ended.
* ~ * ~ * ~ *
Goten landed softly outside a castle. He put his space suit on to
keep out the poisonous atmosphere. When he stepped out of the
ship he was greeted by two humanoid warriors, they wore some
rather unusual armor, and scouters of all things. The armor was
somewhat more ornate than the type that Begita wore, but it
definitely bore some resemblance. They appeared not to notice
the atmosphere. One of the warriors was the one who had
contacted him with the planet’s coordinates, and where to land.
Both of the warriors seemed to be of the same race. The one
he had been in communication with strode forward.
“I’m Buzz, that’s Pauli. I am sure you are anxious to see our
master.”
“Yes, if you would just lead the way.”
Buzz and Pauli flanked Goten as they led him through the castle
gates. The gates shut slowly behind them. Goten was slightly
intrigued, he wasn’t sure if it was the atmosphere, but everything
took on a slight yellow tinge. They walked down the short hallway
and through a pair of doors. The doors opened into a large open
air courtyard. At the other end of the yard was a large throne,
with a figure seated in it. They slowly made their way toward
the throne.
Once they were close enough to see clearly, Goten was shocked.
The man that sat in the throne was very human, or at least appeared
so. He wore the same armor as the other two, even had a scouter,
he also had a cape.
“I am Lord Sapporo. Pleased to meet you.”
“Son Goten, what do you want?” Goten said with a snarl that
didn’t quite sound right through his helmet.
“A simple question, one that should be easy for one of your
stature to answer.” Lord Sapporo paused for a while.
“Get on with it! I want Seema back now!” Goten was fast losing
his patience.
“Ah, yes, the Earthling, why, here it is.”
A glowing orange orb floated from behind the wall of the courtyard.
A figure lay prone in the orb, it was Seema.
“Let her go!”
“Ah... But if I did that, it would die, besides, I haven’t even asked
you my question yet.”
**If I can blast him, and distract him, then I could grab Seema
and get away without further incident.**
“I wouldn’t try that boy, the barrier that keeps her atmosphere
in and the planet’s out is generated by Lord Sapporo. If you were
to distract him, I’m afraid that he may lose his concentration and
let the barrier slip. Then you would kill what you intended to save.”
Said Buzz.
“Get out of my head!”
“They are very useful aren’t they? Those two Godas are how
I’ve lasted this long.”
“Ask your damn question and give her to me!”
“Of course. I want to know how you become a Super Sayajin.”
“You what?!”
“I won’t repeat myself, so you better have heard it the first time.”
“You can’t... You aren’t a Sayajin.”
“Goten, Goten, Goten, but I am.” Lord Sapporo stood up then,
and his belt detached from his armor to sway lightly behind him.
Agitation was evident on Goten’s face. Lord Sappporo just
laughed.
“You can’t be... Dad and Begita were the last of the Saya race.”
“I was lucky Freezer thought I hadn’t left on this mission yet,
when he destroyed planet Begita. Those two fools thought they
were the last Sayajin, if you call them Sayajin. I swear King Begita
would be turning over in his grave, if he had one. To think a
castoff like Kakarotto became the first Super Sayajin. Then
Kakarotto perverted Begita over to his way of thinking, they
don’t have the right to call themselves Sayajin.”
“And you do?”
“Don’t talk back, I still hold the power of life and death over your
precious Earthling. And yes, I do. I still hold true to the Saya customs.
Destroy the weak, amass as much power as you can. I have however
dropped the one that said know your place, because, I’ve also found
out that I can’t be restrained by my birth power.”
“But you are too unchanging. You refuse to believe that what
Dad and Begita have achieved is worth anything.”
“Hold your tongue boy. The Lord said not to talk back.”
**But...**
“Hold your thoughts as well, they aren’t appreciated here. Except
the one on how to become Super Sayajin, that I care about.”
“Even if I could tell you how, which really I can’t. You see I
was very young when I became a Super Sayajin. And I wouldn’t tell
you anyway, you are much too evil.”
“Don’t you care about your Earthling?”
“I told you, I don’t know how.”
“Obviously you don’t care that much about the Earthling. Perhaps
you care for yourself more? Buzz, Pauli, beat it out of him.”
“Yes sir,” came two voices in unison.
A fight, what Goten had been preparing for. He hadn’t expected
these two to be this good however. They both kicked at him, he felt
the first one coming so ducked, but the second caught him in the
midsection. Oof. Goten went sailing through the air, heading strait
for the courtyard wall. He extended his hand to the ground and
began a tumble, when his feet impacted ground he went sailing
upward.
Goten hovered for a moment to get his bearings, then, boom.
It was like an explosion went off inside his head, or at least around
it, his helmet blew up with the stress. Buzz had gotten a good kick
in at Goten’s head. Goten had enough presence of mind to hold his
breath. He fell with the force of gravity and the force of the kick.
He wouldn’t be able to recover before contacting ground. Before
he hit the earth, a knee went in his face, the blood began to stream
from his broken nose. He quickly exhaled with the force, then
inhaled, the air burned his lungs, only his Saya constitution
allowed him to breath this stuff. The human side was what gave
him the burning sensation. Goten was lifted back into the sky.
He slowed his ascent and wiped his nose with the back of his
hand. He stared at the mingled sweat and blood on his gloved hand
for a second. Before he had time to do anything else he was plunging
earthward again. Buzz got him with a double fisted chop. This time
his fall met no interference. Goten went crashing through one of the
castle walls. He decided to stay under the debris for a while to locate
his opponents. They were both airborne now, hovering on either side
of him.
“I know that didn’t kill one of the legendary Super Sayajin.
Maybe hurt you slightly, but definitely not dead. Are you ready to
answer my question yet?” said Lord Sapporo from his throne.
Goten didn’t answer instead he began to gather his ki at both of
his hands.
“His battle power is going up,” said Buzz.
“Is he becoming Super Sayajin?” Pauli asked.
He had enough ki now, he got up swiftly the rubble fountained
away from him. Dust coalesced on his face where streaks of sweat
once were, he took aim and...
“Energy ha.”
Two ki waves flew from Goten’s hands toward his intended
targets. Both Buzz and Pauli were taken by surprise. They took the
blasts full force. Huge explosions engulfed the two warriors, but
Goten knew it wasn’t over, their ki hadn’t even gone down slightly.
The fires of the explosions hadn’t even died down before Pauli
and Buzz reacted.
“Brat!” Came from one explosion.
“Boy!” yelled the other.
Two ki bursts flew at Goten, he easily dodged these. Goten
once again took to the air. With renewed strength he made it to
Buzz, before Buzz could recover from the expenditure of ki. Goten
uppercut his target, Buzz’s singed body went flying. Then Goten
spun to kick the ki he felt coming behind him. Pauli stopped short,
the kick missed. Goten paused, he felt a ki source behind him
building, then a wave drawing near him. Goten dropped, the ki blast
caught Pauli in the face. Pauli disappeared in the fires of the ki
explosion.
Seema had just woke from her slumber. She rubbed the mucous
from her eyes.
“Can’t these people ever keep quiet? First they kidnap me from
my room in the middle of the night. Then they drag me off to god
knows where. They don’t give me any privacy. All to get at Goten.
Well he should be coming to rescue me soon anyway. Goten?” It
was then that Seema’s eyes went skyward to see the battle, and her
would be rescuer.
“Goten! Help!” she screamed.
Goten was caught off guard by the scream. Off guard enough
not to notice Pauli emerge from the ki born fire and head his way.
Pauli, now with no small number of blisters on his face and arms,
punched Goten in the back. Goten heard the space suit rip, and felt
one of his ribs crack. Thrown off balance by the punch he wasn’t
ready for the kick that followed, it collided with his head. Goten
went spinning off into the distance. Before Goten completed his
downward spiral, Buzz kicked him back toward Pauli. It was as if
they were playing an enormous game of hackysack.
This time Goten was ready, and went in a direction of his own
choosing, after Pauli kicked him. He stopped his momentum and
hovered, looking at his adversaries. He rubbed the blood from the
left side of his forehead as he thought.
“Something isn’t right. They shouldn’t be able to get such
telling blows on me, and why haven’t I been able to become Super
Sayajin? Definitely not lack of trying. It’s like something is missing.
But what?”
Pauli and Buzz had used Goten’s moment of self analysis to
launch another attack. Buzz fired a ki blast, and Pauli charged.
Goten came back to himself soon enough to knock the blast away
with his ki, but in the ensuing fire and confusion, he was caught by
Pauli’s punch. He began an ceaseless decent to collide violently
with the courtyard floor. A huge explosion of dust billowed up as
he hit. When the dust settled he could be seen at the center of a
crater five meters wide and two deep.
“Either one of them is as good as I am. Both at once, and I don’t
stand a chance. I just don’t have that kind of raw power, at least
not without being Super Sayajin. I need that kind of power to defeat
them if they keep coming at me together like that. Unless...”
Goten stood in the middle of the crater. He slowly reached up
and ripped the space suit from his body. He wore the orange and
blue outfit that he favored under the space suit. It was soaked with
perspiration, and dulled by the yellow tinge of the atmosphere. He
began building his ki again, this time in his lungs. He had never
tried this alone before, he hoped he had enough power to do this
without Trunks’s power to add to his own.
Pauli and Buzz used the time Goten was spending building his
ki to launch another attack. This time Pauli built up for a ki blast,
and Buzz charged. Pauli fired, but Goten was ready. He exhaled
slowly letting the ki escape from his mouth and take shape on it’s
own. Three fifty centimeter tall white images of himself spewed
from his mouth, then scattered, Goten went with them. Pauli’s ki
blast hit the bottom of the crater where Goten had just been. Dust
went flying, Buzz went into the dust cloud and swung at open air.
Three voices slightly higher than Goten’s, but similar in sound,
spoke out in unison.
“Ghost attack! Ka.. Me.. Ka.. Me.. Ha!”
The ghost’s Kamekamehas hit Buzz unblocked. Buzz flew
upward to see his attacker, when he emerged from the blast he
was covered in dust and blood. He saw the ghosts battle power
readings going up once again, and he began to fly for cover. The
ghosts started their merry chase, blowing up mountains for
kilometers around.
Goten’s attention, now undivided, focused on Pauli. The two
exchanged a rapid series of punches, kicks, dodges, and blocks.
This went on for a few minutes then Pauli saw an opening, and
kicked right at Goten’s chest. Goten hadn’t noticed the hole in
his defense until the kick connected, he reeled backward, leaving
himself open for continued assault. In the unremitting offensive
against him Goten felt another rib crack, this time blood spouted
from his mouth, it had punctured his lung.
The pain caused him to loose concentration and he fell to the
ground. The impact jarred him.
“I’ve used too much ki by creating the ghosts, now I don’t know
if I can win.”
Goten got slowly to his feet.
“Will you now tell me how to become a Super Sayajin?” Lord
Sapporo yelled.
“Never!” Goten screamed. He spat blood as he pronounced
the word.
Pauli began to build up for another ki blast. Goten stood, took
a wide stance and cupped his hands together.
“I doubt I can push his ki back, but I have to try.”
“Ka... Me... Ka... Me... Ha!”
Pauli fired his ki blast at the same moment. They struggled for
what seemed like forever, the two ki blasts pushing back and forth,
with gains in ground being only momentary. Goten saw a flash out
of the corner of his eye, then he heard his own voice with two
echoes, advancing on his position.
“Ka.. Me.. Ka.. Me.. Ha!”
Buzz pulled up at the last moment. Buzz looked back to see
three little suns impact on Goten’s right side. The force of the
Kamekamehas caused him to lose much needed concentration,
allowing Pauli’s ki blast to hit him with the addition of the ki he
had added to the fray. The ghosts dissipated in the ki explosion.
When the fire and dust cleared, a bloodied and broken Goten
lay at the center of a large piece of scorched earth.
“Now you will tell me how to become Super Sayajin, or die.”
Lord Sapporo waited a minute for a response, but when none was
forthcoming... “Pauli, Buzz, Put the poor child out of his misery.”
Pauli and Buzz gained altitude rapidly. Goten knew what was
coming next, they would use most of their ki in a single attack on
him, probably disintegrating his body.
**What went wrong... I just don’t understand... Why couldn’t
I become a Super Sayajin? I’d done it hundreds of times before.
Then again too, I used to be set off more by losing... That’s it!
That’s what’s been missing.** “Anger.” He hadn’t meant for that
last part to be aloud.
“But, about what?” Goten was thinking right up until Pauli and
Buzz reached their apex.
“Goten! Don’t lose, get up!” came Seema’s call.
**Seema’s kidnapping... How they must have treated her...
What they put her through to get her here... Focus. I need that
anger.**
Pauli and Buzz built up their ki and fired. In that same instant
Goten’s hair bleached blonde, his eyes bleached blue, and ki began
spilling out of every pore in his body. He had become Super
Sayajin again. He rocketed away from the intense ki blasts, to stand
even with Buzz and Pauli.
“Anger? Of course! The legendary Super Sayajin, the ultimate
warrior who seeks only blood and battle. Kakarotto was too soft,
only his anger made him Super Sayajin.” Lord Sapporo thought
about what he could work up some anger about.
“The Saya pride. Letting a low ranking warrior like Kakarotto
be the first Super Sayajin.”
Both of their scouters were gone now, having overloaded when
trying to measure Goten’s newfound power. Buzz looked shocked
at the transformation, Pauli smiled and charged. The kick Pauli
ended his charge with was easy for Goten to dodge, now. Goten
grabbed Pauli and threw him to the ground. Pauli hit leaving a large
dust cloud. Then Goten built up and fired.
“Energy Ha!”
The blast leveled a mountain near to the point of contact. A
fiery mushroom cloud was the only indication of Pauli’s last
position. When everything settled, Pauli’s body could be seen laying
face down at the center of a large plain. Goten knew Pauli was dead,
the ki that was Pauli’s began to dissipate into the atmosphere. Goten
felt the blast coming but decided to let it hit him, for effect.
The ki blast engulfed Goten, when the fires died away, he stood
facing Buzz.
“If you run now, I’ll let you live.”
“Don’t give me that!”
Buzz released multiple ki blasts in rapid succession. Goten didn’t
bother blocking, he knew all of the ki blasts were of insufficient
power to even touch him. He let this continue for a while, but
when it looked like it wasn’t going to end very quickly, acted.
Goten flew around Buzz, and punched him once in the back.
Buzz realized then, that he was firing at air. Goten grabbed him
and threw him out into space, toward the sun. Goten watched him
disappear from view.
“If he pulls himself together in time he may be able to live,
otherwise...”
Goten felt a large energy blast coming at him from the ground,
it was moving rather slow. It had sufficient power to hurt him, but
since it was moving at a rather moderate pace, he decided to wait
till the last minute. Just before it hit him he lifted his left hand and
spun to knock it aside. The ball exploded next to the castle.
“It was rather large for the amount of ki it had, I wonder what
he intended to accomplish with it?”
Goten heard a scream after the explosion, then a cough, and
labored breathing, then silence. He looked to the crash site of the
ki ball, and saw Seema’s lifeless body there.
“No, no!”
Goten lost all concentration then. His eyes returned to brown, and
his hair black. He fell earthward, when he landed he jolted his legs
slightly, but that didn’t matter. He ran to Seema. When he reached
her he knelt down and put her head in his lap.
“Come on, you can’t die. Not now, I’d almost won.”
Goten reached inside his shirt to bring out the bean bag. He had
two beans remaining, he put one in her mouth.
“Come on now, chew, you can’t be dead yet. Here I’ll help you.”
He began to move her lifeless jaw. It occurred to him then, there
was no ki in her body, she was dead. Tears began to leave clean
streaks down Goten’s face, he began to reminisce. How they had
met, that first time he and Trunks escaped Begita. The walks, the
games, the heat, the night, all gone. The tears came faster. He had
been the one to deliver the fatal blow. That hurt worst of all.
Goten looked up then he saw Lord Sapporo standing in the
courtyard, watching, enjoying Goten’s pain. Lord Sapporo had
long blonde hair that stood on end, and his eyes were blue, he
was a Super Sayajin. Second stage too, Goten could tell by the
feel of his ki.
“Aw, Goten has lost his play thing.” Lord Sapporo’s grin
widened.
“You used her prison to attack me. Even if I hadn’t blocked it,
she would have died.”
“Yes, she no longer had a purpose. You’ve given me what I
wanted. Now you no longer have purpose. Don’t worry though, I’ll
make sure your worthless life is ended as quickly as hers was. Even
if you were still Super Sayajin, you’re badly injured, you’d never be
able to stand against me.”
“Damn you,” softly at first, then screaming, “Damn you! Shinu!”
Goten had never felt such anger, Seema’s death and Lord
Sapporo’s arrogance was pushing him beyond reason. He had
heard that the first time someone became Super Sayajin it took
this state of unreason to do it, but this wasn’t his first time.
Lightning crackled in the background, the wind began to pick up.
It didn’t matter to Goten that Sapporo was a second stage now
as well, and fresh. Only one thing was on his mind, revenge.
The glow started slowly, his hair began to stand on end and
bleached with the power that Goten was taking into his body. His
irises bleached blue, then, something he had only felt with Trunks
began to happen. He felt his hair growing out. When it was done
growing, his hair reached to mid calf. The fact that his hair had
grown, didn’t register in his mind until after Lord Sapporo did a
roundhouse kick at him. The kick seemed so slow, uncoordinated.
His anger had broken through the final barrier, he had become a
third stage Super Sayajin, without becoming Gotenks.
Goten dodged the blow easily, and returned with a rapid series
of punches and kicks of his own. Sapporo could not defend himself,
and was knocked down. Goten saw his opening and took to the air.
“Ka... Me... Ka... Me... Ha.”
Goten’s blast struck Sapporo full force. Sapporo did not even
have time to raise enough ki to defend himself. Slowly Sapporo’s
visage melted away under the force of Goten’s Kamekameha. The
blast continued on through the planet, and on it’s way out of the
solar system.
Goten came back to himself, his hair shrank back down to it’s
normal length. The color returned to his hair and eyes as well.
Exhausted, he plummeted to the planet surface, right next to the
hole from his Kamekameha. Goten almost passed out, but,
something kept him awake. Perhaps it was the gurgling sound
coming from the hole. He peered over the edge, to see molten
magma racing toward him.
“I... Can... Barely move... Got... To... Make it to the ship.”
Struggling to control his body, Goten barely made it to the ship
before the magma reached it. Just after he shut the hatch, the
magma picked up the ship and thrust it below the surface. Gaining
some control, Goten rushed to the bridge.
“Got to blast free before the heat shields are melted through.
Startup sequence and...”
The ship jerked beneath the surface of the magma lake. Soon
Goten was rocketing free of the magma, and the planet, still trailing
a few reminders of his stay.
“Well, I suppose I should remember those moments... They
were my last with Seema.”
Goten began plotting a course for Earth when an insistent beeping
caught his attention. He turned to see what was distracting him. A
small blip was on the galaxy map, it was on the planet below him.
“A dragon ball? The dragon balls! How could I have been so
blind! I can wish her back alive with the dragon balls, and I have
all the equipment I need right here.”
Goten decided to wait around a while longer, so the magma
would cool and he would have a chance at the dragon ball.
“Looks like I may well meet up with dad and the others. Either
I’ll find them in my search or they’ll find me in mine. Never thought
I would be in competition with dad, though, maybe I should let him
have his wish first. If only to calm mom’s nerves.”

Notes
Ara - Japanese exclamation.
Kamekameha - For those of you unfamiliar with Goten when he
was very young he did the Kamehameha technique. Everyone was
in disbelief, especially when they heard “Kamekameha”, he couldn’t
pronounce it right and it just stuck.
Nya - Cats go ‘nya, nya’ like ‘meow, meow’.
Shinu - Die. The inflection when spoken like this is that of an order
from a greater to a lesser.
Shishi - Piss.
“Hellooooooo. Is anybody out there? Please send c&c, b&m. Any
Dragonball fans out there? There’s nobody... They left me all alone.”
