characters simply assume it to be true... an assumption which has never
been proven.
True. *BUT* the narration demands that this be the case. The story has
been told from the beginning in such a way that the nanniichuan *has* to
be the cure. In real life -- maybe not. But in a story, such things tend
to take on more weight.
