	Sigh.
This is probably a stupid thing to ask, but...

You see, I just picked up a japanese-english dictionary. Seems
like a rather good one (I even found a few minor swear words in it, which
always surprises me in a dictionary), and, of course, I started to look
up various Ranma terms.
	Saotome was easy. Ranma though...
Ran, for disorder, tumult, etc... was easy.
	Ma, though, was tougher.
I found half-a-dozen definitions for 'Ma', but none that equaled
horse. Going in the opposite direction, though, I found that horse=Uma.
So I'm wondering... what happens to the 'U'? Some grammatical rule I've
never heard of (which, considering the little japanese I know, is all too
possible)?

	Just wondering.

	Thanks!
	-Mike

(Oh, and since I don't know the kanji for the 'ko' in Ranko, I
was wondering which meaning it had... child? fine powder? silk worm (A
wild silk worm?!) tree? Or orphan/solitary/alone (which I think would be
quite nice, but am probably wrong...)
