I've begun to wonder how many of these `punnishments' aren't wish fulfillment.

You have to ask that question? Of COURSE they're wish fulfillment. In
some cases, rather morbid wish fulfillment, but wish fulfillment
nonetheless. Besides, it gets us in touch with the characters we create,
so its a valid literary exercise (RIIIIIGHT!!)

um I dont realy know about wish fufillment, I mean I had my curse 
before hand and unless I become an a student by january Im doomed to 
meet the overfiend you call that wish fulfillment?  I  dont.
