onna-Stormwalker stood silently atop the dome of the Academic Building,
looking out into the night. A vicious wind swirled around her, and a
driving rain pelted her lithe body, but she seemed not to notice.
Appearances are deceiving.
The whirling, gusting storm that raged around her was a reflection of
her own soul, an outpouring of all the pent-up emotions which had sought
to burst forth. Anger at what had been done, and yet the solemn
realization that she had earned it; frstration, at the limitations the
curse imposed upon her; sympathy for her friend, who had not taken to
his new existence quite so well; and love for the fiancee (finace
sometimes?) who had stuck with her through it all.
Such storms were nothing new to her - the power had come with great
effort - but she rarely let them rage with such a fury. It was irony
indeed that the ability she had learned brought on the change, for the
change was why she had pursued it.
Not her own change, though. No... she had come to terms with that.
Certainly it had made life difficult, but she was a tenacious one. No
indeed. If it had only been her, she would have accepted it. Even her
fiancee had taken to it rather well, as they leaned on each other for
their strength. Truthfully, she considered her other's change a
blessing, for it made public appearances less embarrassing. It is not
often that people will hit on a girl when she is obviously taken. It
had not stopped there, though.
Nick. One of the best friends she had ever known. His pain was worth
training for, and fighting for, and she had steeled herself for the
battle. Now storm in deed as well as name, she was ready.
Her cry of war rose on the howling winds, "I am the storm!" and she
vanished into the night.
