The problem - and the reason why the went for this process in the
first place - is that Akane *couldn't* do that. If Akane could
have borne the baby, they wouldn't have gone for artificial
insemination at all. Akane's and Ranma's blood factors are
incompatible. After bearing one child, Akane had developed
antibodies and would have miscarried in case of another pregnancy.
So they decided that Ranma would be the child-bearing mother - but
the ovum still came from Akane and the semen still from Ranma.
