I have to disagree with this; I've seen many fathers call their
daughters various cute nicknames, from "princess" to "pumpkin" to
"frogface".  I think it's a great idea to have Ranma use that kind of a
knickname; it helps us understand how much his daughter means to him.

Have you heard this usage in Japanese?  Or is this merely
an observation of English speaking society?
