Please keep writing this story! I'm really want to see where you'll take
it. I do have mixed feelings about the story, but I want to know happens next!
On the subject of mixed feelings: I really like seeing Ranma and Akane
acting like rational human beings. I suspect every Ranma fan secretly longs
for that. On the other hand, I have to reminding myself that you're writing
about a different version of Ranma. (I don't know why I can accept
"normal-universe" stories that have R & A acting rationally like Palmer's
"Seasons," but have to keep reminding myself that they're not out of
character in explicitly alternate universe stories. This has happened with
every Elseworlds story I've read, and I like all those stories a lot.) It's
distracting , but as I get further into the story it will bother me less.
In the mean time, I'll just have to pinch myself when I start thinking,
"Ranma wouldn't do that!!!! Tact doesn't exist to him!"
The problem I see is that the characters are willing to sit and hear each
other out. So many problems will be easily solved if they always act
rationally. Then again, you've only introduced one of the arational
characters. (can't say irrational cause the Kunous and Shampoo were never
rational to start out with) I just hope you can keep up the level of
conflict without compromising the characters you've created. That's keeping
me in as much suspense as the story itself!
I do have one other complaint, and it's partially explained by the fact that
I'm a raving Kunou fangirl (scary, no?). I'm kind of put off by Kunou's
reaction to Ranma. As I understand it, homophobia is much less common in
Japan. Well, that's not it exactly, but being queer is regarded as odd, but
not perverse. Lesbianism is less well-regarded than male homosexuality,
but it's still portrayed openly and nonjudgementally in children's shows.
I'm also put of by his hazing Ranma. I don't think he'd torment him so
openly. Um, that's not coming out right. I think he'd more likely give up
on Akane, but continue trying to defeat Ranma for besmirching her good name.
Of course, he's only doing this out of duty, and in memory of the love they
once shared. (That's how he'd rationalize it, at least.) Still this is
based on the little I've read in the manga, and the even less that I've seen
of the anime. (I've read all the Viz translations, and vols. 19-21. I've
seen the first six eps of the anime.) Chances are quite good you've seen
more than I have, and can send me 18 examples of just where I'm wrong.
Anyway, keep writing the story. I'm really enjoying it!
