It's called taste.  A rare swear word in a choice situation is not that 
bad.  What was in the first copy of Facades that you mailed out was a lot 
more than that.

        I know. My first one was over the line to the extreme. That IS why I
toned it down completely. What I was complaining about were two emails in
particular flaming me about the REVISED version screaming fire and brimstone
that it was not Ranma, and they never under any circumstances swore.  And
again, the version I ended up mailing the frist time was a big boo-boo on my
part. 

Swear words are a vulgarity, pure and simple.  Thusly, their use should 
be carefully watched when writing a 'fic.  Put too many in, or use them 
inappropriately, and your fic comes out like "a tale told by an idiot, 
full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" (I know I've used the quote 
before, but it seemed appropriate).  When the words distract from the 
story, rather than compliment it, the words have gone too far.

        Erg... They should be used in context that's for sure. It's also not
a good idea to use them in formal occassions. But, IMO they have gotten to
be a fiarly normal part of speech in america. Whether this is good or bad,
I'm not saying, but it IS true. I also wonder why for some reason swearing
is considered worse than outright violence. Farr too many cable stations
have huge amounts of sexy scenes, or really violent scenes, but the swearing
is cut out. What IS that? It's hypocritical IMO. But that's just me. Now I'm
not for swearing on TV or nothing just pointing it out cuz I like to ramble.
