Since no one else publicly comments about this wonderful, well-written
fanfic, I'm reposting some of the comments I made to the author here. A
major note - I have never seen any of the anime this fanfic is based on,
and I don't think it is necessary to really enjoy it. If you missed part
of the fanfic, let me know, its the only one I collect, so I can resend it
to you. Actually, I would highly recommend going back and reading her
first fanfic, I think it was called Dragon Song, first, since Dragon
Dreams is really part 2 of that fanfic. Yes, I have that as well. ^ ^
My comments [tweaked and added to]:
You're getting more devious about those commas, only caught one quote
ending with a . when it should have a ,. You've managed to keep your own
style and stay grammatically correct at the same time. Saved by ? and !
and clever avoidance of he said/she said. ^_^ [you'll never see too many
he said/she saids in one of Windlilly's fanfics - in fact, they're sort of
shocking when I do actually find them!]
My, oh my! Very, very dark, not for emotional, just for imagery. Women's
fingers - the idea of someone harming women or children makes a very
primitive and real part of me want to kill said someone in a very real and
nasty way. I think a man has to deny a very real part of his internal
makeup to not want a death penalty for anyone who visits harm upon women
and children. Ah, soapbox time! <g> Sorry. By the way, we are suppose to
hate the bad guys here, right? :) Hopefully we, the readers, will be
rewarded with lots of nice bloody deaths of said persons? ^ ^ [Windlilly
replied that the bad guys are basically demons, and yes, there will be
payback. Sugoi!]
[Note: most of the fanfic has been fairly happy and upbeat, only this
last part saw it getting really grim. Parts 16 & 17 have a lot of romance
- this story balances romance, action and tradegy extremely well. It is
NOT a darkfic, more a grand melodrama with good intense characterization
thrown in as well.]
Have you seen any Fushigi Yuugi? If you haven't, let me know and I'll get
you some of it. It has managed to have some of the darkest emotional
moments in anime that I have ever seen, especially eps. 27. Oh, its also
got romance and comedy, so its lots of fun to watch (when its not ripping
your heart out repeatedly :). Dragon Dreams strongly reminds me of it.
Going from the two lovers finally united to the destruction of the village
in such a short span is very much like Fushigi Yuugi, which took me from
sid-splitting laughter to tears in only 5 minutes in one episode.
No children among the bodies? Good. I don't think I could deal with
writing images of dead children into my writing either <shudder>.
Besides, some of the children surviving helps to alleviate the morbidity.
Do you get any feedback besides mine? I find it curious that there is
never any public responses to your stories. They're really well written
and lots of fun to read. Very well done suspense. Sigh. I guess the
regular blabbermouths [and you are all a very nice well-mannered bunch of
people, but my poor 'd' key is not impressed some days :] on the ML are
too busy flaming each other about Ranma's hair color or what someone said
about Australia. ^_^ [note: I should change this to pregnant ranma
threads, the current 'd' key subject line winner of the day :].
Anyway, another great part! Encore, encore! Woowoowoo!
