<< Actually, Ranma swears pretty bad. Ryoga, Mousse, et al also
swear,
but not as much or as severely as Ranma does (maybe this is because
we see them less). >>
Just curious, but is this in the manga, the videos, or both?
Krista (whose knowlege of Japanese consists of "baka" and "hentai.")
You have to start somewhere; the first word of real life Japanese I
understood was "aho!" (someone dropped his bag at a fast food place,
and I overheard a friend insulting him).

Well, I'm one of those "manga-nazis" who only regards the manga as
part of the canon, so I'm referring to the manga. However, from what
I've seen of the anime in Japanese, their diction is not too dissimilar from
the manga...
"Manga-nazis" :-)
There is at least some toning down in the anime, e.g., in Tsubasa's
intro, when he insults onna Ranma, his manga "busu" ( jdict: "ugly
woman (*very* rude)" ) becomes "chinsha" ("tart (col)") (I assume this
is milder).
But in general, you don't want to take Ranma and company as good
examples for learning Japanese.
