The origin of this disturbing little vignette is based on the coincidence of
a recent, stupid thread on the FFML and the announcement of Jeff Rutsch's
homepage, which led me to his uncompleted fic "Circles."  While it is not as
perverted as some of the things I saw on Jeff's homepage, it's pretty bad, so
please don't read any further if you don't want to be offended.


Ranma 1/2: Hypothesis

The mention of Ranma's name caught Tofuu's attention.  He had been sitting
alone, eating his ramen while perusing a paper sent to him by one of his old
medical school chums.  The paper concerned some research in infertility.
 Little coincidences like that, Tofuu would later muse, were part of what
made life in Nerima so exciting.

The group of boys from Furinkan sitting at the table behind Tofuu's had been
engaged in a lively discussion that the chiropractor had tuned out as he read
the scholarly paper.  But when the name of one of his regular (*ir*regular,
ha! ha!) patients was spoken by one of the teens, Tofuu's concentration on
the paper was suddenly broken and he began to listen surreptitiously to the
boys.

"Yeah, she is sooo fine, I wish Ranma could stay that way all the time."

"What difference would it make?  Underneath it all, she's still a boy; it's
not as if she'd want to date you . . . or . . . or . . ."  the boy broke up
in embarrassed giggles as his companions snickered lecherously.

"I bet she'd be great at it, though, just because Ranma would know exactly
what a man wants."  More lewd laughter.

Thoroughly disgusted, Tofuu began eating the ramen noodles more rapidly,
intent on finishing quickly so that he wouldn't have to hear much more of the
boys' locker room banter.

"But what if you got her  . . . in trouble?" one of the boys queried in
between snickers.

Tofuu froze.

"She'd kill you for sure, probably with a Tenshin Amaguriken attack aimed
right at your . . ."  Tofuu again tuned out as his mind worked furiously
through possibilities that now seemed obvious, though he had never considered
them before.  Horror gripped him as he reached tentative conclusions that
were fueled by a combination of the boys' conversation and some of the
details of the paper he had been reading.

Tofuu resolved to call the Tendou Dojou as soon as he got back to the office.
 He would direct them to send Ranma when he returned from school.  On second
thought, with that boy's luck, there was no time to waste.  Tofuu found the
direct line number for Furinkan's school nurse in his daily planner and
headed over to the pay phone, calling card already drawn.

"You want me to what?!" Ranma whispered fiercely, his face reddening
instantly.

Remaining perfectly calm, Tofuu repeated his instructions.  "Take this
container, go into the other room, and provide me with a sample of your
semen."

Ranma stared wide-eyed at the floor, flushed and disbelieving.

Tofuu continued, "Afterwards I'd like you to change into a girl so I can give
you an examination.  There's a pitcher of water and a dressing gown in the
other room."

"Why?" Ranma stammered.  "Why do we have to do this?  There's nothing wrong
with me, as a boy or a girl, is there?"

"No, Ranma.  Nothing's wrong."  Tofuu smiled reassuringly.  "I just need to
check out something that might be important.  There may be absolutely nothing
to concern us, but I want to be sure.  I'll explain it all to you after . .
 ."

"You gotta tell me now, sensei!"  Ranma interrupted.

Tofuu considered Ranma for a moment.  "Very well.   But I want to assure you
that this is merely hypothetical.  I've been going over some possibilities
and the relevant medical data.  My examination may confirm or disprove my
theories, but . . ."

Ranma made an impatient gesture.  "Cut to the chase, sensei."

"Ranma, there is a slight possibility that you can impregnate yourself."

OK, I don't feel like writing the rest of this scene, but the gist of Tofuu's
theory is this:

1. Semen with living sperm may remain inside Ranma's body (specifically
inside the reproductive organs) after he transforms into a girl, just as food
remains in his digestive track after a transformation.  Tofuu asked Ranma to
masturbate in order to increase the likelihood that there will be semen with
living sperm in Ranma's seminal vesicle (and also perhaps in his urethra)
when he next transforms.  Tofuu will then examine girl-Ranma for traces of
semen in her reproductive organs.  The semen sample won't go to waste; Tofuu
will test it to assess boy-Ranma's fertility.

2. If the results of these tests are positive, then Ranma's own sperm may
fertilize her own ovum, provided that: (a) she ovulates soon after
transformation or has a living ovum already in one of her fallopian tubes
upon transformation, (b) at least one sperm remains viable long enough to
reach the ovum in the fallopian tube, and (c) Ranma remains female long
enough for all this to occur.   (a) and (b) are the weak links in the theory;
I don't know if there are any tests to determine whether either condition is
true at any particular moment.  (c) is of course very possible.

Naturally,  the question remains: what would happen to a fetus inside
girl-Ranma upon her transformation back into a male?  More intriguingly,
would Ranma choose to remain female to protect her child's life if a
pregnancy occurred?

Any author is welcome to complete this story or to use its ideas to get Ranma
pregnant in their own stories.  While the scientific validity of the ideas is
in question, I think it's easier to suspend disbelief concerning these
possibilities than it is to believe that Ranma could be raped.  I also think,
from a plot originality perspective, these ideas are preferable to cop-out
explanations (mind control, amnesia, etc.) for girl-Ranma having sex with a
man willingly.
