Exactly. They think that they are the only people on the 'net and are
quite shocked when the person isn't from America. It's especially stupid

hrm...  Well, The first thing I have to say is that most Americans get 99%
of their information from television.  The television that they watched is
produced in the us (occasionally filmed in canada by a bunch of americans)
and is based on things happening in America.  When news from other countries
comes up, they usually think "hmmm, Austrailia, that's where everyone fights
aligators in swamps" or "Scotland, that's where all the men walk around in
skirts playing bagpipes" or "Greece, that's where everyone walks around in
togas talking about math".  So it's not hard to understand that most
Americans have a really warped world view.  Also, for the most part most
American's contact with foreigners are Mexicans (Latinos is not a word that
really fits, since most of them don't speak latin), Chinese (and every so
often someone from Japan, Korea, or Vietnam), and sometimes Canadians, but
most people don't really think of them as foriegners since they are mostly a
bunch of english (some french) speaking white guys without any funny accents.

Hence, most Americans know that there are a bunch of countries other than
the U.S., and there are people who do in fact live in those countries, but
don't accually realize it.

Hmmm.... Okay, I can see that. I'll bet that some people think that there
are kangaroos hopping down the streets, too...

the borders of the US.

Ah, well... All those people with guns in the US should go kill the people

Though that part in ID4 with the people on the news putting a ban on the
people shooting at the alien spaceship ... THAT only reinforced American
stereotypes! (Same thing with that git flying the crop duster, too)

Yep, and I make fun of them, too. They're all called 'Bruce' and sit in
pubs in the country all day and do nothing but drink and attract flies.

Americanising British shows fails very badly, and the American end product
sucks. That's why the American pilots of Red Dwarf fell over so badly. The
Americans wrecked the characters to make them 'politically correct' and it
just plain sucked.

You hit that one right on the head.  I stopped watching TV over a year ago
since everything was either idiotic, politically correct, or both.
