No.. According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica.. a merkin is a
small, fake hairpiece that women use after shaving their.. uhh... privy
areas.
Which is why the name of the American president (played by Peter Sellers)
in the movie "Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The
Bomb", was named, and I'm not kidding, "Merkin Muffley". Most people in the
audience missed that pun, but Takahashi would have been proud. Everybody
caught "Premier Kissoff" and "Dr. Strangelove" of course. There were many
others.
As an aside, I remember repeating a Groucho Marx annecdote to a mixed croud.
One young lady I just met loooked at me like I just grew a second head, or I
said something provocative. I had to review my story until I found the
offending comment. I told her that a "celluloid dicky" is the name for a piece
of clothing that looks like a shirt worn under vests, that popped up like a
set of window shades in old bugs bunny cartoons.
To this day she still turns red, and refuses to tell me what she thought the
story was about.
Are these messages of mine vaguely humorous, or are they too much spam? You
can tell me to stop in private email. I can't decide if I'm talking into a
void, or if people are politely ignoring me hoping I'll go away.
