It's black.

Red is NOT lighter... just has more chroma.  As far as a B&W scanner or
camera go, Red that deep is Black.  So is still no proof.

i don't even think the artist herself knows.
see, i have this quicktime video that has some
color shots of the manga...in the first shot,
onnaranma has red hair, in the very next shot, it
is black.

who knows.
