To continue on the inconsistencies on the cover of Vol 37 Ranko's hair is red, 
on Vol 35 its black, and on Vol 34 its blue [And those are only the volumes that 
are in easy reach]. As for the "original" manga in Shonen Sunday a quick check 
did not find any issue that had the first couple of pages colorized; but, I have seen 
them with Ranko as a red head. Also Shonen Sunday had a number of covers 
and adds with "her" as a red head. 
  Jack is right "she" does have black hair in some issues, but its also red 
sometimes.

Have you seen the covers to the Japanese manga? It has Ranma-chan with 
black hair. Ok, I'm not going into this color thing, but anime does tend 
to make characters look funny with weird hair colors and eye colors.
