Well, you are right. It is inconsistant. My friend got the first 15 
Japanese manga from Nikaku. Another friend also has some from like #20-30 
and he showed me a few. Like, a few of them (#22 I think) had Ranma-chan's 
hair as purple on the cover. In the earlier ones, she has black hair.
