Just about the only editor you can count on over a multitude of Unix systems.

(and before you ask, I do have a DOS version of vi for those times when 
there is no other option)

Personally, I chisel my stories into slabs of stone in ancient Greek. I 
then transcribe then into hebrew and get them translated into english by an
aged Rabbi. After that, put them into my computer via thought wave reader and
edit them. (actually, I just use MS-dos edit cause it's a no brainer)
